    Roman coins

My 8 year old nephew’s current obsession has moved from Minecraft to Ancient Rome.

I am wondering about getting him a Roman coin for Christmas but have zero knowledge of what’s available for a low budget of around £30.

Does anyone have advice to offer. He lives in London so something minted there might be particularly interesting.

1000's of them on ebay for pennies. Some nice starter collections at £15 to £30. Certainly good enough for an 8year old

Bought one like this and seller told me it was Roman. Took it to a coin expert and it turned out to be mid 13th. C. Florentine florin or 'Fiorino d'oro', and worth more than ten times what I paid, minus the 18k. chain and mount.

I remember them selling sets of reproduction coins along the road at Vindolanda. Mind, that was over thirty years ago.
