    For Jim W.

Just got back from my second year 20k mile service. And they had this in the showroom....

Oh service cost was £133. I took my own oil which cost £53. So £186 all up, and because I went to a Ford dealer, they also renew Ford Assist full UK, European breakdown cover for another year. Not bad eh?

10 speed auto with recaros and custom pack 4

I really don’t like the look of the front of the new Mustang, at least not in photos - it looks somewhat constipated! Perhaps it’s very colour sensitive.

I really like the 2018 5.0 gt, nearly putting my hand in my pocket but my friends are saying build quality is not close to European standards, so as an everyday car it will rattle and squeak

It looked better in the flesh than on the photos, but I’m somewhat in agreement, in that I think it’s lost some of its aggressiveness.
However there’s no mistaking that it’s still a mustang, the back end looks great with the new quad tip active exhaust and the interior is a definite step up from mine.

I’m tempted, but I’m finding it difficult to come to terms with the price difference between what I paid 2 years ago and what a new one would cost today.

I suspect I’ll stick with what I’ve got for now.

It’s the rattle & squeak that people have told me I will hate. They haven’t had one, or been in one but seem convinced it will annoy me too much (I’ve got rid of at least 3 cars in under a few months each previously due to this!)

Most cars I get I tend to strip interiors, line with thin felt / Teflon lube to stop rattles.

But with this I just love the looks, the noise, and now, those recaros, just wow!

Friends are mistaken in my view.

Like I posted above 2 years and 20k miles. And my car feels as tight and rattle, squeak free as it did on day one. It’s an absolute pleasure to drive, and covers massive distances with ease. 650 miles in one day last year, and got out as fresh as a daisy.

In fact I’d go as far to say that on the U.K. Mustang forum, there has been very few issues reported about interior noise.

The interior on my Mustang isn’t bad at all, ok I accept its not like an Audi or a BMW but it’s perfectly fit for purpose, but the NEW mustang takes another step up, and as I discovered today new materials and the higher quality was immediately obvious.

My advice would be, before listening to the old American Muscle car prejudice’s of crap interiors, and won’t go around corners, go and have a look and see for yourself.

    You may be pleasantly surprised..

Enoch, so I have to go to a special ford dealer to view a car & test drive, can it be serviced by normal ford garages, and do they have the expertise / knowledge?

Only based on my Z4M which goes to a dealer I know has expertise with the engine via 1 of their technicians, Jamie. If it wasn’t for him I’d be at a specialist as they see more of those engines more often.

Appreciate anyone can do oil and fluid changes, more about if the engine needs something beyond the basics.

Am I correct in my thinking that the MY18 was the first to have the recaro option? Convinced I’d read earlier reviews of the RHD ones saying we only got standard seats in the UK.

Are yours the standard seats therefore & how do you find them? My purchase will most likely be second hand (once prices drop) and it’s between this and an M5.

M5 doesn’t ignite my passion in the same way, anyone can go fast in a turbo car. It’s a bit like the way the Z4M feels special as it’s got an old school engine / vibe about it.

Still undecided about manual or the 10sp auto, know with the torque I don’t really need to change gear unless I want to, but yet to find an auto I truly feel I’m driving. Yes, I’m impressed with the latest 911 auto I drove, but something about a manual appeals to me, even though it will be slower, less efficient etc.

    Ooh lots of questions..

Ok Mustangs are only available to order from “Ford Stores”. Same with the Focus RS.

As far as I’m aware any Ford dealer can do a regular service, but I’ve stuck with the Ford Stores up to now on the basis that they’ll see more Mustangs and should be more familiar. But the reality is that this is a very solid simple lump, so any competent mechanic shouldn’t be troubled.
The other reason I’ve stuck with the FS, is that they renew your Ford Assist breakdown recovery for free. And I suspect they have better access to software updates if needed.

I’ve used my local Ford normal dealer for parts and they’ve proved to be very good.

You’re correct in that the 18 is the first time Recaros have been available. I think it’s a £1700 option.

Mine are standard seats, and I really like them. The heating and cooling features are something I use a lot, so personally I wouldn’t spec Recaros, as they don’t have these features. They’re also only available in black, and I dislike black interiors on any car.
The only feature I do miss is memory seats, it’d be nice if that was available, but it’s not a biggy.

The question of manual or auto, is the source of much angst on the forums, I don’t get involved as life’s to short but it’s the same as Canon v Nikon, Omega v Rolex etc etc.

Personal preference for me is the auto, and I’d love to try the new 10 speed, but I’m not going to slate the manuals as I fully appreciate why someone would prefer it. And again forum info from the USA is that this new manual is a massive improvement over the previous generation, so you could be in for a treat.

The spec I like is Royal crimson, custom pack 2, 10 speed auto with magnaride.

    Hope that helps.

Go try one, you just might like it..

Thank you - hadn’t spotted the cooling was only standard seats, always fancied some cool air in the summer through the leather, so good to know the standard are great.

Agree on the ford stores approach, just annoying they are 30mins away vs 2mins but not a regular occurrence.

Promised myself that the next car is a V8 on the condition my commute isn’t as daft as my last consulting role has been. 19k miles on my first ever brand new (non company car) hasn’t sat well with me! Short list is C63, M5 and Mustang. Only one gives me brute non turbo engine, and that really appeals to me.

Will drive both. All my autos have been company car diesels e60 & f10 so know there is more fun to be had & a short drive in 911s haven’t been enough to realise the benefits.

A mustang has always been a childhood poster car for me, and the release into RHD removes my barrier to purchase, so know what my heart is saying. The fact you’ve had rattle free driving inspires me further.

The child in me loves blue with white stripes but thinking something a little more subtle might be the way forward, grey with black stripes maybe.

Just hope with the exception of a Bluetooth exhaust, I can leave further mods behind, but having seen some of yours, I fear I can be easily tempted to tinker - the Z4M has remained standard, but the mini has had a few tweaks for increased fun.

Will get a drive booked and let you know. Thanks again for the detailed response. Will spend many hours on the mustang forums, although find the more I read, the more I want to change that I’d never thought of lol.

    Matt

Good luck in the search Matt...

Regarding the exhaust, again the 18 wins over my model due to it having active valves. I believe that unless you want anti social noisy, the stock exhaust is plenty fruity enough for the U.K. Save the money you’d spend on an exhaust and spend it on something else..

Oh by the way a couple of colours are being discontinued soon and this Green is one of the replacements.. and there’s also the Bullit, but I understand that’s a bit away and manual only...

Now that’s a bright green, possibly too much for me, even my JCW is white silver with red roof.

Having called several dealers today, most have V8 examples of the launch colour Orange Fury for immediate or short order delivery. Not sure I like the colour though! I have also found a lone example of a Magnetic (graphite) car with Custom Pack 1 which is available, but that is about it. One dealer said 6 months for a car......really?

Based on second hand prices vs new and supply & demand it’s going to be a wait for the right one I fear. Loved the one posted before spec wise, but at the best part of £50k I’m not sure.

We’re a 2 person household & have two 2 seater cars already. Alleged logic suggests a third 2 seater is a silly decision, hence the JCW as the third car. In 12 months the back seat has been used twice, both time for transporting other peoples kids...surely logic should suggest its silly to have 4 seats on behalf of other people’s kids! Can hire cars if needed.

These things seem to be breading, very noisy one in yellow near Wakefield, Blue one in Pure Cars in Wakefield for sale, passed another yellow one on M1 southbound and an Enoch colour scheme complete with stripes travelling northbound M1 (vague recollection it was near Leicester or Nottingham) all spotted today. Not a fan of the yellow but the blue and grey ones *yum*

I would really like one of these as a fun car but creeping up towards £50k makes it very difficult to justify. One of the most impressive things about the recent model was value for money. At £50k you are heading towards the European cars.

Do they do a ‘monster’ version of the mustang? Most of the other muscle cars have a crazy supercharged version and I always loved the idea of that !!

^^^^There are still quite a few “17” model cars in the dealerships and Ford are offering discounts and 0%.
A few folks on the Mustang forum have picked up brand new cars at around £35k.

There’s no such thing as a factory monster power mustang. But a few companies offer Roush supercharger upgrades, which will easily see 700+ Bhp.

    Hi Enoch,

My local Ford Store (Hendy, Portsmouth) has an 18MY GT Coupe in Orange Fury. 10 speed auto, Custom Pack 4 in the showroom.
I'm waiting for my new MY18 Mustang GT Convertible. I ordered it in December, 'got the VIN in February, built in March, and hoping to drive it in May?

    My spec is:
    5.0 GT Convertible.
    Orange Fury paint
    10 Speed automatic
    Custom pack 4

I didn't order the Magneride option. I've had similar in several of my cars including my new AMG Merc and find it of limited use in every day driving (but lots of fun on a windy road). Anyway, I reckoned I won't be hammering the convertible around the bends as much as I would a coupe.

    Small update

Just a small update for those members that are interested in my Mustang mods and upgrades...

Since I fitted the GT350 rear valance, I was never happy with the fake quad tip outlet pipes, so yesterday I got my friendly welder to weld on some new exhaust tips. Was quite a task getting everything lined up so that the tips would be level etc, and not rub on the valance, but as usual he did a great job.

I really like what he’s done, and the new look makes the back end look much meatier.

Tonight I’m starting my Euro Mustang tour and shall be meeting up with fellow EU Mustang owners in Luxembourg, on Friday..
I’ll be visiting Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and France, and I’ll try and get a few pics or maybe a short video..

    Lost in Belgium

Well despite having 2 satnavs on the go, I’m completely lost somewhere in the south of Belgium... or it could be the North of France嵐嵐

Do I care?? Not one bit... Been to pay my respects to my great Grandfather at the Ploegsteert Memorial. 100 hundred years since he and 12000 or so others remembered at this memorial lost their lives and never came home...

Quite a sobering experience, but I’m glad I did it.

Crappy picture I know, but you may just be able to work out 31.5 mpg....

    Quick update

Quick update on the mustang tour.... absolutely brilliant day yesterday visiting chateaus, and castles etc, followed by a brilliant evening buffet...

We managed 30 mustangs, and there are only 3 Brits amongst our EU friends. me, a chap called Mike and his Mrs.

We have a leg amputee from Belgium driving a modified Mustang GT, and a Paraplegic driving a Moded mustang with hand controls...Brilliant.

Off to Spa in a few hours to watch the Spa classic...

The view this morning from my room..
