I had the opposite I sold a car and paid for a friend to deliver it and fly back, worked out much cheaper

Having just bought a new car, several hundred miles from home, I am looking into ways of transporting it.
Worst case scenario I will go and collect it, but it would be a good 14 hour day!
Found Shiply online, and asked for quotes, which are coming up a bit more than expected.
Any thoughts/suggestions/help?

I could ask my nephew if he will do a round trip, would need to know locations though.
Or just ring round a couple of recovery truck businesses local to the pick up/drop off, most are one man and his truck so it might work out cheaper.
I can give you a firm to use to quote - devon based but they travel all over uk & europe - completely covered wagon too not open trailer-they moved our '54 Bentley twice & much less than anyone else.

Why not spread it overnight would make it a bit more relaxed. Only time I've done this got a train late afternoon then stayed in Travelodge 5 mins walk from the dealer and then picked
up the car the next morning.
I see excavators and heavy equipment move around Finland pretty well over a facebook group for earthmovers. Maybe worth a shot to try a Scottish group for transportation types, if they have one.

Where is the car you've bought located?
The car needs to get from Sheffield to Inverness.
There is no rush, and if I can’t arrange anything better/sooner I will go and get it on the 19th December.
Shiply have always come good for me. The range of quotes can be quite high so it’s worth waiting for the more reasonable quotes to come in. If you can be flexible with dates & times, the price can be very reasonable (because you fill a trailer which would otherwise be empty on a return leg).
Which parts of the country and you going from and to?
Edit: Ah, just seen that it’s got to go from Sheffield to Inverness. It’s the Highlands destination that will be putting a lot of people off. A long way to go and little chance of a return load, I’d imagine.
You might be better arranging to meet it in Edinburgh or similar? Price to there will be a lot more reasonable than all the way to Inverness. If they're a nationwide dealer they may give you the option to get it moved to a more convenient dealer to you.
Thanks for the ideas and feedback so far gents.
Getting it and myself to Edinburgh may be a happy medium.

I used Shiply to collect some wheels from Scotland , to come to London . The quote I accepted was about half the first one but it took a couple of days before the quite arrived. Maybe they post the most expensive one and if that isn't accepted , a lower one comes through. Seemed that way to me as I had 4 (I Think) progressively lower quotes until the one I went with.
Actually I just remembered, I bought A 1 series BMW from BMW Torquay (not even an expensive car) and did the deal on the proviso they delivered it, all I had to do was drop their man off at Chelmsford Station, gave him a cup of tea and a couple of biscuits as well

I used Beamish Transport to ship a Corvette from the south coast to Newcastle. Few years ago. Was cheaper than train/flight and fuel. I don’t recall the figure, but I remember being surprised by how cheap it was.
Wouldn’t do it again though...the (often long) drive home is the best part of buying a new car for me.
I’m in Doncaster and the wife as an auntie in Inverness,so I’ve done that drive a couple of times, about 8 hours one way,it’s a shame I’ve no plans to see her ,it’s an interesting drive if your in a decent car

Fly to Doncaster and get them to meet you there.
Train to Sheffield and drive back
I do know a lad in Barnsley who recovered a volvo for me, but no backload will mean miles charged both ways,
Whats the most northerly JCT? they would prob bring it there on one of there regular trucks

Thanks again for the continued suggestions.
Most have now been looked into, and for various reasons wouldn’t work.
Also thanks for the PMs.
Still chuckling from a message from a local TZer, who just suggests
”Road Trip!”
I used a guy that is used to moving high end stuff to bring an expensive classic up to me last month from the bottom of Kent to Sheffield , he's very well versed if you need a good guy . I can pop you his details and he's quite fair
sorry it looks like I PM'd you too late I should have just posted Pro Car's contact up here instead..
sorry that was dumb even though probably wouldn't have been any use at least you would have had the number sooner
Thanks for the PM though, much appreciated.
