    Nice.

I can't tell from the pic but does this also have faux aged lume? If it has that would be a shame IMHO.

  3. #3
It does appear so, judging by some of the comments beneath the photos. Anyone know more about it? I can find few details!

    Really?

Leaves me stone cold... apart from the hands (which they forgot to design) it's an Explorer "lite". What am I missing here? I love IWC but can't understand all the excitement surrounding this one.

Doesn't seem that special to me, don't see what the fuss is about. It's more the quality photos that make the watch look good.

Does nothing for me either I'm afraid.
It looks very plain. But not in a pleasant minimalist way.

I love it. It's a shame the lume isn't a bright white though.

The contrast between the IWC font and the numeral is horrible.

It looks like a homage to an old explorer. At least it lacks a date to give away the too small movement.

People seem to have nicknamed it “The Explorer Pilot”. I just think taking the date off and the totally clean bottom half of the dial is beautiful.

Can someone post a link I can’t find it on the web.

Mine is one of a limited edition of 1948 (so not that limited).

I can’t help feeling all these pilots watches should be called navigators watches, they got them issued first then the pilots.
After all back then it was a tool for navigation.

Sort of looks like a £300 micro brand watch and not a good one. Wonder what the price on this bad boy is?

So it’s a mock up then, not the real thing?

I thought the photograph wasn’t very good.

  18. #18
Probably 65mm like all modern IWC's?

Really liked the look and size of the Mark XVI:

Pleasant looking Watch but for the money they will be asking and also - sorry - the fauxtina, it just doesn’t make for a compelling proposition. Not to me at least anyway.

There's too much real estate going free on that dial

Seems like a comedy compilation of 2017 - vintage without sympathy for design or balance, fauxtina, limited eidtion, poor proportions...

    Naff and without personality.
The new railmaster is crap but has personality.

Looks like its using the titanium case of the Heritage model. Normally not a fan of fake lume*, but I have to say I'm actually quite taken with the heritage (ridiculous pricing and small movement aside) this on the other hand does nothing for me.

*Still haven't managed to figure out whether it's actual lume used throughout the dial or just paint.

It's an entry level IWC pilot with a different dial and a slightly uglier and less durable case material. Are you educated?

The Mark XVI pictured above is the entry level. Actually I think they come in smaller sizes which are cheaper but it's today's quintessential IWC Pilots. People have a problem with it's date window placement but at least it's styled well.

I’d prefer the date at the six position but it’s still absolutely fine where it is.

Surely it’s not a real watch just a mock up?

They just did a homage to the MK xi it doesn’t look that.

If it’s real please show a link as I can’t find it.

Ignore me - Just read that’s it’s a limited edition. If it’s as dull in real life as the pictures suggest it’s a big no from me...

I guess the price is stunning, so the OP wasn't totally wrong.

I really like the look of this, the first IWC I’ve liked in a while, I also actually like the lume colour it makes it look a little warmer, the shape of the hands is a plus too.

The heritage also has a Sellita. I wonder if they’re moving over from ETA. Are they a cheaper movement?

Probably not immune to Swatch tailing off their supply of ebauches to non-Swatch brands.

I wouldn’t call it entry level just because it’s relatively cheaper, some of us like these designs.

The one in the title above I have found out is for a select band of 27 people, it’s probably the design they wanted.

Everything people moan about on my tribute to the mk xi I am happy with or it just doesn’t bother me
    Which includes

    Size 40mm
    Aged lume
    Date
    Date position
Sellita movement for the price of the watch
Simple, basic design (which I thought was the whole point of it)
Price (of course I wish it cost less, but it’s IWC, I like it a lot and so choose to buy it)

In real life it sits low on wrist, the dial is so clear you hardly notice the crystal, the lume is just right and you can read the time with ease and without distraction.its a tribute not a copy.

I put it on a new di modell Matt jumbo with off white stitching on Friday,it’s perfection most people won’t know what it is nor appreciate it,I like that fact.

Meantime I had a email back about expected accuracy, mines about 3 seconds a day.

To answer your question of time accuracy of your Mark XVIII Tribute to Mark XI after spoken with our watchmaker.

    1. For the whole industry mechanical movement accuracy is 15 seconds plus or minus per day, for IWC is 7 seconds per day.
    2. Cerlita movement is same quality as ETA movements. You will see it in our new collection more and more.

    Have a great day ahead.

    With Kind Regards

Yup, that’s a lovely watch. Despite chronos being my immediate “go to”, I think I must be entering a more clutter-free phase as both this and the railmaster are hugely appealing.

Like it or not, it's your choice. However, it's clearly entry level. It doesn't even have an ETA movement.

Gotta find some BS to make +/- 7 s/day seem reasonable.
