    Squeaky Shoes

I've got a pair of smart Loakes work shoes, which I've had for about 15 months. One of them has developed an annoying squeak from the sole area as I walk. Are they FUBAR or is there anything I can do. Would be a shame to ditch them as the uppers are still in good nick and they've moulded nicely to me feet

I certainly wouldn't ditch them. Might be worth taking them to a decent shoe repair place and have a word with them.
That said, I had a squeaky pair once, got them soaked (not intentionally - walking home from work in heavy rain) and the squeak went. Not something I would recommend though.

Bit far from Bungay but can't recommend Busy Bees in Newmarket enough. From reading other threads Loake do repairs themselves though. May be worth contacting them.

I will resist....... it's a bit too easy that one. Unfortunately the squeak definitely comes from the sole

Are you sure its not your leg that is squeaking?

Sometimes the cause is silicone additives in the polish.

One of the traditional fixes is to sprinkle talcum into the shoe which prevents squeaking between the sole and insole.

Talc in the shoe or brown paper cut to size should stop the squeak.

When I joined the Fire Service in 1975 the recruits training course was very militaristic. The fire boots back then were made from very thick and unforgiving leather, and one of the old school instructors advised that to assist with breaking the boots in one should simply pi$$ in them and leave overnight. Perhaps this might rid your shoes of their squeak?

Let Loake know. I’ve just had the same issue and they told me to return them at their cost for repair.

At least you'll get a table to yourself in the canteen though.

Funny thing, my Loake shoes started doing this, but the timing was shocking.

I came home and our builders had just fitted a new wooden floor. I walked over it with my shoes on and declared that the floor has a squeak.

Then the builder walked over it, no squeak.

Turns out my Loakes decided to start squeaking and make me look like a fool.

I didn't do anything about it, but they kind of fixed themselves.

Just to say thanks very much for the talcum tip, which has worked !!

I will now try this on my walking boots which have started squeaking where the top of the tongue rubs against the inner.

Perhaps I was a Guinea pig in a previous life ??!!

Look at it as a benefit.
The squeaky shoes will act as a distraction technique, so can cover the noises associated with breaking wind as you walk.

Its like a built-in squeaky floorboard everywhere you go.

In the Netherlands there's a saying, "if your shoes squeak you didn't pay for them fully yet".
Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
