Ladies datejust - a good price?

Local jeweller than sells the odd used Rolex has a 31mm 178274 fluted bezel black with batons datejust from 1993. Refurbished with 2 year guarantee. Box, no papers. Is £3,500 a good price??? When I looked online they seemed more expensive than that. They also had an Explorer than was a bit overpriced I thought. The wife really liked it.

That model wasn’t released until just over a decade later, so if they are claiming this is what they have then you should run away. They are not fit to deal in such watches and neither you nor they can have a clue what other omissions or errors in their identification of the watch will have been made.

The 1993 predecessor of the 178274 was a 2135 calibre 68274, usually fitted with a 62510 Jubilee bracelet or occasionally a 17mm Oyster 78350. Either should cost about 20% less than you are being asked.

So, since you won’t be buying from them, who are the clowns?

Thanks HM. Looks like I mis-identified the reference. Yes, it's the reference you suggest. And that explains the price.
