A JLC thread is well over due!

Here's my MCC2 - which will always be the flagship of my collection.

I think people preferred the classic Reverso shape with the straighter lines. Some also prefer the manual wind as well. Quality and finish is top notch though.

Lot's of really beautiful watches on this thread - my grail is a JLC MC Geographic - I love that watch but just can't seem to catch one - maybe one day!

    ETA

You have to catch the hands in a certain light to see the wonderful blue colour, I think this image captures them quite well

    Underrated watch that one, beautiful.

  8. #58
And a dial close up I took, with the silver hands looking a bit more visible than usual:

    ...[/QUOTE]

I also own this watch it is very elegant and well made but I agree it is not always easy to see the hands. Mind you that could be my eyesight!

Nice to meet a fellow owner. I blame my eyes these days but the truth is I knew the hands were like that when I first tried it quite a few years ago. My eyes were better then but I was so taken with it I just decided not to care :). I realised over the years that I subconsciously flick my wrist ever so slightly in some light conditions now, to make sure the hands catch the light.

Don't get me started on the lume...I'm sure that it is a compromise between the marketing dept saying it needs to have lume and the designer disagreeing.

JLC is, in my opinion, a much overlooked brand. Their watches always seem, and i hate the term, well... classy. Elegant designs and beautifully made and a brand with so much heritage.

I seem to recall that JLC have the highest number of movement calibers any other brand (I am sure some expert will be able to confirm or not).

I lusted after one for ages and bought myself the below 1960's memovox

Beautifully balanced design and flies under the radar any time I wear it. It is a truly lovely thing to wear and the "bumper" movement is very friendly :)

I like it too much and tend to mother it and as such it doesn't get much wrist time (which makes me question my ownership somewhat) but each time I wear it I really enjoy wearing it.

They do make some truly lovely watches; the downside is a tendency towards fragile movements and a dreadfully slow service facility. These days, I am a bit wary. Shame because they do make some classy stuff, at fair prices,

I haven't experienced any fragility in the movement, and of course some if their classic movements are used in other much more expensive brands. Others may have had problems, I don't know.

At least their spares are available to independents, unlike Swatch etc. And there are good independents around with relevant JLeC experience, on this forum and elsewhere.

    .
Perhaps I was unlucky. But my sample failed after two months; i sent it back for service and they claimed it had been misused in some way. Which it hadn't. I had been very careful. Anyway, it took six months to repair. Last JLC I bought. Unfortunately, I heard similar accounts from other people. I don't know how representative this was, but I wasn't prepared to find out....

I’ve always really liked this Watch. Even from right at the start of my interest it spoke to me. Something about the dial, the complications, is so confident in its delivery. It almost challenges you to find something you could do better.

I've had several including the exact same model in the OP which I still have. It's incredibly well put together and has the most comfortable bracelet of any watch I've ever owned.

I also have this one, which is currently for sale on SC. They don't come much better than this, (in any brand) but I don't really have the lifestyle for it:

If you'd had bought this in steel, I'd have snapped it off you in a heart beat :) unfortunately it's just too far out of reach in gold.

Always had a soft spot for JLC, particularly Reverso and Memovox models. I had a Grand Reverso 976 (which I'm trying to dig out pics), then a Master Ultra Thin Moon

Both pieces sold back through TZ-UK. Now am lucky enough to own one of these-

A rose gold Reverso Duo-face. A good fit for me as the 976 sat a bit large on me.
I've still got space for another JLC, possibly a Memovox as it's such a cool complication, or Deep Sea chronograph.
There's something about them; the brand, the history, the look; all distinctively different from other manufacturers in the way they build a collection. If you meet a JLC owner, you can ensure they have good taste! ;)

have you tried one on? I finally found one and was a bit disappointed. The movement is too small for the case so there is an annoying gap outside the minute track and it pulls the date window closer to the centre of the dial.

    Great thread...all lovely pics posted.

With JLC, I had opted to go the sporty route first, years ago and then much later on...added a Reverso.

My first love was a Memovox, but I never could find one in the condition that I needed it to be. A pity...

I assume you are asking me since the pic is mine.

The answer: I bought it from my JLC AD of course. Orginial owner. :-)

The Fagliano strap is to die for.

If you are truly serious, PM your email and name to me. You're not the first person who was interested in a watch of mine. :-)

I will say this though...when I do sell, the watch will be mailed to a US address only though. Or a face-to-face deal in NYC (with you or a proxy).

Way too many issues with overseas shipping and security, its dangers, etc for me to chance it...sorry.

When I popped into the bond st boutique to order a link for my reverso bracelet ( pics to follow) the staff were charming and couldn't have been more helpful and enthusiastic about the mind boggling complications on display.
I didn't even have my jlc with me (I think I was wearing an AP) !
If you're in that neck of the woods definately pop in , it's refreshingly friendly and unstuffy.

I was there at the weekend, amazing place! chatted to one of the staff for an hour, tried a few things on. He knew I wasn't looking to buy anything imminently, very friendly still and not pushy at all.

There was a nice light hearted Facebook thread about the catchphrases associated to each watch brand. JLC got 'Patek quality at Rolex prices '. I must concur !

I read somewhere, probably JLC's Facebook/Instagram account that that boutique has just won Watch Boutique of the Year....whether that's just in the U.K or international it's still an impressive feat and I always enjoy a visit
