    Jaeger-LeCoultre (JLC) Appreciation

A not Rolex thread, this one.

Any JLC owners out there? Here’s my Reverso Gran’ Sport. This is a now discontinued automatic model that never really took off commercially and somewhat unloved now. But it has a screw down crown, square movement and also water resistant. It’s a great dress piece for special occasions.

Nice, I’m not usually a fan of JLC watches but this is difficult not to like! I could see myself wearing this, and it’s good to see a watch featured that’s not one of the forum darlings beginning with R or O. Thanks for posting.

I had a lovely square vintage JLC dress watch that I sold after a particularly hefty watch purchase. I still miss it.

A Reverso is on the wish list, either a Day&Night or the Memory version.

Very nice, what year is it?

I don’t have any myself, but I have been reading about these this last week along with the IWC.

Both those choices are lovely. Really pleased with mine and would buy JLC again. The ladies Reverso models are the classiest women’s watches there are (alas, never met anyone wearing one).

I made this video showing the difference between my Vintage JLC and an Omega of the same period.

Obviously Omega have upped their game since then.

    Like that a lot.

I had a Master Date, beautiful watch really but I almost never wore it. Only JLC I ever had.

Very nice to see and a good idea for a thread. JLeC watches really appeal to me and the history and heritage, especially the quality of the movements, is part of the appeal. My pride and joy is a Master Geographic from about 2005. I fell in love with it quite a few years before I could afford one. I don't have any great pictures but here it is:

And some shots of the gorgeous and wonderful 929/3 movement from when Brendan serviced it:

And a dial close up I took, with the silver hands looking a bit more visible than usual:

    A Reverso? One day...

Yes! Love JLC and have had one for a long time - was probably the first major watch purchase.

Really should wear it more often.

I have a 14ct 1954 JLC Powermatic which I won in a game of poker about 25 years ago and it came with a matching gold strap. The winding knob and its shaft fell out when I was tramping the streets in London and the only way to get an original replacement was to send it back to JLC. It came back nine months later with a bill for £1230.00.

I only use it for formal dress which now a days is about 10 evenings a year.

I will never sell it. It may be gold but it is not loud unlike a gold Rolex that looks like something a pimp would wear.

Very nice indeed. They make some beautiful dial layouts as yours shows.

Great story, Mick. You’d probably be asked to fill out a risk assessment form to gamble like that these days.

Love JLC’s I have this Memovox.

My ageing eyes are beginning to struggle with silver dials and hands though so if I have another JLC it would have a black dial. I’d love a Master Control Chronograph for the superb dial symmetry and the Geophysic 1958 is a proper grail for me.

I did have a Grande Date for a while. Very different from the ‘average’ watch.

    Movement is lovely.

I must say that I am currently besotted with the simple Master Control Dates. As I age... the simple elegant appeal of a 38mm 3 hander with date appeals more and more.

    I'm very drawn to the REF. 1548530 with the blue accents and the skeleton hands;

    Web Image

    But the more conseravitive traditional model (REF. 1548420) wears like a dream, I was so close to purchase in Sept from a London AD but something else came up in another walk of life;

    Web Image

Complex JLCs are something to behold; but I don't think I'll ever afford a complicated watch at this level but I'm not drawn to them either.

I have a massive appreciation for JLC. Their parent company attracts criticism and their service centres likewise.

The watches, however, have that something that drew me to this hobby in the first place. They look, by and large, fantastic - without the vulgarity of some default choices - and they bring the looks and complications of far more expensive brands to the realms of attainability without the pretentiousness and the prices that inevitably follow it.

I love JLC as well. I have an automatic night day Reverso, which is so classy and elegantly simple. I also really like the Master Calendar or even better the older master control triple date. One day...

I don't have many non-Rolex, but this week I have been wearing my Deepsea Legend Alarm - the 2010 reissue. One of 959 made.

    Love it

Absolutely beautiful - especially the classic pointer date hand with the red crescent (like Oris pointer dates).

I am in Spain and the JLC is locked up in a safe in the UK, so no pics until I return. I don't have a return date in mind. Being retired I just come and go as I please.

Probably my favorite brand, ideal watches for parties and gatherings, always attract the eyes of the watch-people around.

    Currently just the duo -

.. But had around four k88x based autos - miss the e393 most:

    .. I'd have another non-date of those on a trice. Manuals - had variety of cal.463/450/friends ..

The 1931 tribute is a looker but too large for me lug to lug :-(

The photo is dated 2012. Yes it is a lovely watch and there is great pleasure in all such watches. Here is another JLC I like which I bought in 2010. Save for a Dornbluth sold to someone on here I never sell but just gradually acquire over time starting with a DD in 1977.

You have to catch the hands in a certain light to see the wonderful blue colour, I think this image captures them quite well
