Don't use them myself (but others use them on me) but every barber I have ever been to use Wahl. My regulars have recently switched from corded to cordless.
I think I'm going to start cutting my own hair soon, as it's getting thin enough on top to warrant a number 2 all over, which I think I should be able to manage myself. However, I'm looking for recommendations for clippers that will do a good job and make the task as easy as possible. I thought there was a recent-ish thread that covered this topic, but I haven't been able to find it (there were a couple from a few years ago, but maybe clipper technology has moved on since then? ).
Anyway, who here uses clippers and what kind do you use? Any other tips on this topic?
(Or indeed the link to the thread I thought I'd read would be most helpful!)

I bought a set out of Lidl, cordless. Cheap as chips.
Been using them over a year now.
Need to get the kids to check the back though as it can be easy to miss a bit

Been shaving my bonce for over 20yrs, Wahl all the way. I've had others over the years and they've either ripped hair our rather that cut it, or broken within a year or 2, so i go back to my old tatty looking wahls. Stick with mains powered, none of the new fangled rechargeable bobbins
If i needed a new set now, i'd get

Wahl here, seem to be better built than my previous Babyliss. But do oil them before every trim.
Number 1 all over for me, due to being follicly challenged. When I started thinning my mum of all people encouraged me to comb over, that's a road that no sane man should ever go down!
I've tried Remington and Wahl, distinctly unimoressed with both, these are the best I have tried: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...Byliss+For+Men
Inexpensive with a good battery life and cut flawlessly.
I foolishly purchased the cheapest pair from Argos. They broke half way through their first use and I had the humiliation of walking into the local barbers to finish the job.
And yes, he did charge me full price to complete the other half.
Wahl, and definitely get cordless.
I've been using a Philips pair for ages. Excellent apart from battery life (NiCads?).
Similar style to these ones https://www.amazon.co.uk/Philips-Cli.../dp/B00BN1TW7C which have Li ion batteries.
As others have stated,Wahl . I would also stick to the corded versions. I've had my Wahl Academy clipppers for nearly 8 years and it's never missed a snip.
I use Wahl. Searched around and picked them up half price on a web offer. Professional quality.
Wahl or Andis clippers, I use shavers for my head and the Andis have a good reputation for reliability.
I've got Wahl clippers in the UK and Phillips in our house in Spain.
They are both corded which I've always found to be a PITA because you have to sit next to a power outlet as the cords are never that long.
They also cut at different lengths despite both being set on #2
Because of this my Spain ones cut a lot shorter - so I tend to have a 'holiday haircut' early on any trip so its grown a little when I get back.
Both have been completely reliable despite absolutely no maintenance.
The Wahl ones come in a hard case but the Phillips didn't have a case IIRC and just get thrown in a drawer. They also have a slider for the different lengths whereas the Wahl have different attachments for the different cuts.
I scratched nice big numbers into the sides of the attachments because I could never find the numbers on them and didn't fancy a #1 by mistake.
You will need someone to square off at the back and cut around your lugholes. I've never been brave enough to attempt this myself but Mrs B. doesn't mind just doing the finishing touches for me.
A couple of tips
Don't cut your hair when its long and quite dirty - ie. been gardening or under the car, it feels like its being torn out.
And don't put the cutters away until you've had a shower. All the long hairs you've missed ping up when you've showered.
I’ve got Wahl cordless which I use for beard/stubble rather than head but as a set of clippers go they’ve outlasted 2 pairs of Babyliss ones so far. The lithium battery has a good long life between charges so I’ve no regrets about going cordless.
I have a Wahl professional set of clippers, only a few quid extra and cut very well, never let me down in 10 years, has a cord but doesn't bother me. I gave up using the guards and just use the bare metal blade for a 0.5 all over (head and beard - so I end up looking like a Gooseberry), but I find it easier to not miss anything if it's stubbly all over. I'd recommend Wahl 100%. You will need to apply a bit of blade oil once a month or so.
Another vote for Wahl.
If you do decide to go cordless, I'd try and get some with a lithium battery as they will last longer between charges.
Always Wahl, always corded. cut, wash, cut for best results. Oil the clippers sparingly (I do it afterwards). Seen me right for 20 odd.
Another predictable vote for Wahl, only issue for me is the slightly wonky way my hair seems to grow in a sideways direction st the back, obviously requires a second pair of eyes/hands and never entirely happy trusting my wife with such jobs? Always has the look of someone right handed trying to write with her left hand..?
Wahl but don’t buy domestic ones from a retail shop, paynthe extra and find a local hairdresser supplier (Sally) the professional ones will last you a life time, better blades, better build and a longer cable.
Wahl Super Tapers are used by barbers. You can pick them up for around £50 from specialist suppliers. I've had a pair for 5 or 6 years and they're way better than any of the cheaper stuff from Argos etc.
Wahl all the way, I use corded version for my head with balding blade. To keep blades sharp clean & oil every time. I use cordless Wahl from my beard trim, Did use Remington but it packed up last month but after 8 years!

I have some Wahl clippers but I picked up this Babylis http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5858312 really cheap a 18 months ago. It is really quick and easy to use and the battery life seems great. Impressed with it.
I have Panasonic cordless with an built in adjustable thingy to set the cut.
Very good and has enough charge for 10 cuts.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

I've used both Wahl (corded) and Phillips (cordless).
The Wahl seemed better made BUT the Phillips ones have lasted me for the past 10 years or so and have never missed a beat so they can't be that bad :-)
I only paid about £20 for them (10 years ago though) too.
If you are only going down the number 2 all over route (which is what I do) then expensive clippers are probably overkill and you just want a cheap, robust pair with a number 2 setting.
Cheers,
Mark C
I use the Andis ones that we use to clip the dogs with :-)
(Actually no longer the dogs since we lost both of them a couple of years ago.)
Pricey but we're talking professional kit.
Haven't been to a barber for at least 15 years now.
btw I use a 10F blade with a 1.25" comb ;-)
Another vote for Wahl. I'd also recommend some of their pro ones, you can get them at a decent price refurbished directly from here: http://www.wahlstore.co.uk/refurbish...ofessional.irc
I had a pair a few years ago with ceramic blades that were brilliant - never snagged and never needed oiling. Maybe get have been wahl or Babyllis? Either way but rechargeable, doing away with a cord is a no brainer imho

I bought a set of Wahl clippers 20 years ago for about £30- still excellent. You can send the blades off to be sharpened so there's no reason why it shouldn't last many years. Not sure what a decent set would cost now but perhaps don't buy the bog standard ones.

Pretty much every barbers ive been to use wahl, so they are clearly a top brand. But like anything you can pay anywhere from £25 to £100 (or probably more)

If you like a really close cut you cant beat Wahls Balding Clippers. Not quite as short as shaving but pretty close.
Got these on Amazon Prime yesterday. Got a good old crew cut this morning. Ceramic blades, cordless or wired.
