Thread: GS battery change - where to go?

GS battery change - where to go?

My GS diver (SBGX117) is due a battery change - what is the considered opinion on where to get it done?

    Options:

    1. High Street jeweller - it is only a battery change after all.

    2. Send it to Seiko - seems excessive, it is only a battery change after all

    3. Send it to Seiko - seems right, it is a GS after all

    4. Send it to someone on here - it deserves better than the High Street, and they'll do it properly

I guess I tend to option 4, but who would people recommend?

I was wondering that very thing when I noticed the second hand was doing 2 seconds at a time.

    Renata 371 on order.

I recently sent mine to Seiko for a new battery, reseal and pressure testing. I was very happy with the speed of the service. Cost £68.10 including delivery which is not cheap but fairly reasonable and the peace of mind is worth it.

My SBGX063 started doing the 2 second tick last week, I read it as £32 plus P&P for a battery and reseal on Seiko's price list though that doesn't appear to include a pressure test. What was the price breakdown on the £68.10?

I would be sending mine to Seiko. I do change the batteries in some of my vintage omegas, but they never go near water.

£32 isn't so bad, big difference between that and £68 though.

I think £32 is for a standard Seiko, GS etc prices are different.

Mine has worked out at 99p

Yes, but with a different justification - it was meant to be amusing.

Anyway I did in fact send it to Seiko and this has reminded me to chase it up.

Just go to and AD that has a watchmaker. It’s not rocket science to swap a battery and change gaskets.
