There's a green one on wf for 1025
Should be able to pick up a Longines 1954 Heritage for under a grand..
https://www.chrono24.co.uk/search/in...=1&watchTypes=
And of course any number of Hydroconquests if you want a diver..
I can't see any for under £1500 new, can't see Goldsmith knocking off 1/3rd...
I don't see any used blue ones around either.
It's nice though!
Surprised that I've not noticed anyone mentioning the Longines Hydroconquest (until now! ), maybe a bit too cheap if you've a £1000 budget(?), but I think it's a great watch and gives you cash to spare!
If you must spend it all, the Longines Legend Diver is wonderful, imo.
Going used? Well, Breitling B-1? Sinn 203?

Buying new will almost always lose you money if you resell. Older watches can give you a quality watch from a respected brand and in my view the first step is to narrow down the kind of style you are looking for.
May I be so bold?

This is the best <£1k watch I have ever owned.
I’d just buy a cheapo Casio and invest the remainder in filthy women.
If you buy "second best" in order to get something sooner... you will probably regret not saving longer and getting exactly what you originally wanted.
That being said people need to be realistic as to what they can afford, what their disposable income is and how long a period they are prepared to save up or borrow money over.
There is no point buying an "expensive" watch if it means that you can't afford to go out for a beer or do the normal things you currently enjoy doing.
Most Hamilton are good I like the new orange scuba. There’s one on eBay for £475.
I'm am going to go for the steinhart. If I don't like it I can probably sell with a small loss. Any discounts or suggestions on where to buy from? Regards
This all day long! It’s one of my fave divers and amazing for half your budget
MX5 .............oh no thats not right.
How about a Seiko Shogun then
The longines hydroconquest looks good on web at £595 far too many choices under £1000.
The Longines wouldn't work as an only watch for me, likewise the Steinhart.
There are too many little things with the Hydro, the hands, the overall finish whilst ok for the price range leaves me underwhelmed.
The Steinharts are ok watches, but that opens up a lot of other choices. I would much prefer a cheap used Fortis instead for example.
I would still stick to the goal. In the scheme of things one nice expensive watch is not so much of an extravagance and will last you as long as you need.
The problem with used watches is unless you are clued you have no idea if what you are buying is a good buy or not and what issues to look for.
I'd agree with this, if you WANT a Seamaster, anything else will probably just be a poor substitute.
I don't agree on the Hydroconquest, though, I could happily live with mine as my only watch (if I REALLY had to), although I think if push came to shove my Sinn Arktis would be the 'one'.
M.
The reason for the seamaster is as follows:
1. At £2200 it's a great buy I don't have pots of cash so if I got bored or needed to sell I wouldn't lose much.
2. It looks great and has great history.
3. It is in my eyes the best watch in that bracket.
4. It is mega reliable.
5. It's the nearest thing at the £2200 to a submariner.
& at £2200 it’s around a 25% discount to RRP.
It's just a matter of time...
Regarding 3) and 4)
I remember you advising me not so long ago, I should buy a Seiko Turtle.
I looked it up, loved it, bought it and kept it, so that wasn't the case with me.
I did ignore your advice not to buy from Creation though, there was just too much difference in price to not buy from them.
I did however thank you for your advice so at least I thoughtfully ignored it 😊
That Nomos Binsull has on SC for £850 is surely going to be up there with best watch for under a grand. Bargain
