win 7 licence

I don't suppose any kind soul has a spare one of these? I have a couple of old machines which have windows on and hence have licenses but MS in their wisdom deem these preloaded licenses to be insufficient to download the iso file and reinstall the OS.

You should be able to install Windows 7 without using a license code, then you can activate it from the command line using your existing license. I've had success this way before, so long as the version matches (i.e. w7 home or pro etc)

Without a licence I can only find the software on torrent download and I have no experience of those. I rather thought they were slightly dodgy.
Any idea where I might get it from?

You can buy licenses cheap on ebay with a used mb to validate the license to a machine.

In reality they don't ship you the mb...

match the version you have with the MS download tool and download it,

instal as usual, ans the key should be picked up by the install, as it should be stored in a SLIC file within the BIOS, if its a Dell then this is definite.

It is a dell. But the MS site asks for the key first and then says its preloaded so contact the manufacturer?

There are dodgy Windows 7 iso's available via torrent, but just use a SHA checksum tool on the download file and verify the SHA is for a proper ISO. Otherwise, I think someone has offered to post you a copy.

This allows you to validate that the ISO hasn't been tampered with.
