    Is it just me?

Or have watch prices gone completely insane?!

Omega used to be comparatively affordable but Moon Watches with a bit of bling raking in £6,000+.

And a nice second hand Seiko for £750 on SC!

I thought ooh nice, until I saw the price, 'kin'ell.

And don't get me started on Grand Seikos.

    You paid how much?
I'm just a very naughty boy.

Good deals with- VINSTINK, kevkojak, Optimum, Omegary, seikoking, acg, SPEEDY, kfman, Card Shark, wajhart, Jot, danboy, zenomega, gaz64, minke, Mal52, Alas, norfolkngood, Sparky, rdwiow, mrteatime, gravedodger, joeytheghost, lordoftheflies, Silver Hawk, Filterlab, brooksy, marmisto, Fray Bentos, Bootsy, Harvey69, Mantisgb, bristolboozer, Jedadiah, newtohorology, Zephod, jimm1, Draygo, Raptor.

I may have forgot one or two, apppologies.

If you think watches are bad you should check out mars bars.

The model plays a rather important role in it. The moonwatch is only £6k if you happen to a fancy a very expensive variant of it. There is nothing stopping you buying the relatively affordable regular moonwatch for £2k or less.

Watches are getting expensive, and the weak sterling does not help.

The "normal" moonwatch, which I believe is the cheapest Speedmaster available, is over £3,500.

You don't get much change from a quid nowadays. Same applies to crisps. It's barbaric.

The OP is clearly refering to second hand prices in the SC though (speedmaster with green bezel insert, and RAF gen 1), so I responded in a similar manner. I'm not saying prices havn't risen, but to ignore the regular model and use a special model with "bling" as the point of reference doesn't make much sense.

The prices are being driven by fashions. Go against the fashions and prices are still palatable.

I bought a Junghans and a Nivrel for similar prices. The Nivrel was the superior watch to the Junghans in every way, and is still available for much the same price, while Junghans prices have galloped away.

Vintage Seikos, keep away from Grand S and King S and prices are still very reasonable for excellently made watches 45 to 50 years old and not showing much signs of ageing. A vintage Longines in good condition will cost less than a similar Omega that looks like it's at deaths door.

That was meant in jest and not to begin a huge political debate. There are other forums for that!

3 for £1 in my local Costcutter.

Some watches are going nuts though. Not that long ago you could get a used Submariner for 2.5k whilst a 50 fathoms would be double that. That gap seems to be closing in on Blancpain.

I recently picked up a 2003 Explorer II for 2655 GBP from a well known dealer (waiting for it to arrive) WITHOUT bracelet or box/papers and feel like I stole it! So yes, prices do seem to be skyrocketing. However, our acceptance of the price rise seems to moving along in parallel.

And so is spaghetti. ( uncooked that is, I really shouldn’t have felt the need to say that, but the way the forum is lately I’m going to say it)

Potato swindlers sounds like a great name for a new product. I'd definitely try them, if the price was right.

I wore an Omega Constellation which had a ETA mechanism for over 30 years. It was never the most reliable of watches and one day whilst I was up in London, I took it to a trade jeweller in Hatton Garden. The guy was very knowledgeable but not very sosphisticated. He took one look at it and pronounced it a lump of s*** that on a c*** would buy.

I get the impression that only Seamasters and Speedies are now sought after and hence the higher values.

I wonder what he'd say about all the superlative chronometer bollocks on Rolex watches.

The ceramic DSOTM is wayyyy too expensive. There was one on SC for £5k recently which looked a good deal but couldn’t help thinking the should be the full price in an AD.

second hand prices do seem to be soaring compared to retail, regularly seeing £2.5k for a regular speedy these days.
