Make sure you have the right screwdriver as any fouling of the screwheads will be difficult to ignore. I think I'd be inclined to give it to a watchmaker.
I would like to change the battery on an elderly gents Ebel Wave 1187141.
The case back is solid, it appears that I have to remove the 5 screws around the bezel and go in from the front.
Is this an easy task - I assume that pulling the crown to the hour set position will provide enough wriggle room to detach the stem and extract the mechanism ?
Can anyone advise on the correct battery, so that I can source this prior to starting.
Any useful guidance will be much appreciated.
Thanks

In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.
I always fancied a Wave, after seeing that though I have gone off the idea.
I'm just a very naughty boy.

I'm hoping that one of the forum watch repair pro's will assist with some real-world guidance :)
Take it to Timpsons.
Bump up to catch the attention of the watch service guys !
Don't laugh but I bought one of these, crystal cracked, not working but not bad order at a car boot for £2 in the spring!
Looked into getting a battery/crystal change but only Ebel would/could do it.
Bunged it in a Jiffy bag to me mate in the US as he may have better luck over there with it.
The crown is on a split stem. Just pull it straight out and it will pop off. I use brass tweezers and wedge inbetween case and crown and press down, and it pops right out.
Undo the screws, and flip the case over while keeping the crystal and bezel in place with your fingers.
Remove case and bracelet and the movement and bezel and crystal should rest on your bench.
Replace battery.
Do the above in reverse order.
Job done...
That's helpful, thank you.
Can anyone advise on the correct button cell type ?
From memory a 371 battery, but just open it and leave it under a dust cover while you pop out for a battery...
I was working on the basis that it would be an obscure cell type - I think that I have a strip of those, or equivalent.
Thanks again
When taking a watch apart with a split stem, after removing the crown/outer stem it is sometimes necessary to push the remaining stem back into wind position in order for the movement to come out. When the crown's pulled out the watch ends up in handset and sometimes this has to be reset, a small screwdriver carefully inserted down the pendant tube is the easy way to do this, but strong magnification and good light are a must.
