    iPhone won't backup on iTunes?

Just got an iPhone 8 and tried to backup my 6s but "sync" and "backup" are greyed out in my options?

    Any ideas?

And I'm sure you've rebooted the box as well.. My missus old phone failed to back up throwing some error message a few days back, I managed to sort it out by deleting old back up of her phone in the iTunes>preferences>devices list or something like that.

I've even backed up to iCloud and my new phone doesn't recognise that!

Do you have enough storage space available on either hard drive or cloud to take the backup? Does the phone have an old version of IOS installed?

Yep, 50gb on cloud and almost a tb on my pc, and both phones are updated to latest IOS, and iTunes removed and re installed.

I’m on to Apple now trying to sort it

I'll be interested to know what their solution is/what the problem was.

Delete all previous backups, start “install as a new iPhone” then unplug the lead.

Plug back in and I could backup

Assuming some issue with me having Iphone 4, 5 and 6s backups all called “ricks iPhone”

    sync?

if you are trying to restore your new phone with a backup from your old one they both need to be running the same version iOS.

I've restored phones from ios9 to 10 without issues. Backward process is not working.

I was interested as I was setting up a phone for my mate who bought my 6 from me last week. I did a back up from his 5s, but iTunes wouldn't allow the 6 (which had an IOS version 2 points older than the 5) to restore from it so I just set it up as a new phone without any problems. I suspected it might be the IOS mismatch, but was thrown by the fact that my new 7+ with IOS 11 pre-installed restored from the 6 backup with 10.*.* without any problems. Lesson learned, ensure backup and phone to be restored have same IOS version to ensure no problems.......... maybe! ;-)

that's exactly what I meant - I haven't had any issues restoring from lower version backup, but it is impossible to restore from backup that is made on higher version. That is pain if you want to test beta version and forget to backup old version.
