The "White Wedding" video remains a classic.

Watching it now. I had forgotten how delicately he sings most of that song

1988 whilst driving down to Torquay with my then gf, bought a BI cassette at a motorway service station, heck did we have some fun, soundtrack to a great summer.

Not a fan, White Wedding just reminds me of joining the Britannia Music Club in the early days of CDs. It was one of the Club Choice CDs that came because I was too slow to cancel it.

I've always been a BIG Billy Idol fan, mainly because he has a great voice (baritone?). Even now in his sixties he can still play the part and sing the part.

I'm afraid he always seemed a bit "Punk-lite" to me.

The pretty boy playing Johnny Rotten and then selling out and moving to be a 'star' in the US of A... Or maybe the "Shakin' Stevens" of Punk?

Good luck to him as he made a pretty decent go of it and I'm sure is happy with how his career panned out, plenty would have been more than happy to tread his path as successfully I'm sure, but it's not very Punk is it? (We'll gloss over Lydon's Butter ads, although I think they're rather clever and subversive in their own way!)

He's not got a bad voice and the few tracks (notably White Wedding, most others have faded from my memory) I've heard of his are OK, but I wouldn't ever have gone out of my way to listen to them.

Maybe I was just a fraction too old to appreciate him.

he was ok in that rock stuff esp when he teamed up with Steve Stevens on gtr. Now he lives the life in Hollywood and has had a bit of 'work' done so just an oldish rocker imo. He suits that US market as do Whitesnake etc. Saw him a couple of times and Rebel Yell/White Wedding were definitely his time.
