Winners Announced! Charity Raffle, Timefactors PRS-25 AND PRS-29A + Vostoks + More!

Win a Smiths Everest PRS-25, Smiths Military PRS-29A, plus Vostoks and consolation prizes!

BOTH TIMEFACTORS WATCHES ARE NOW UP FOR GRABS THANKS TO YOUR GENEROSITY

With another check-up visit in the UK imminent for Laura accompanied by Alison, it is time for another charity fundraiser. Please read on for a chance to win two Timefactors classics, with two Vostok Amphibia runners-up prizes generously donated by barryw.

    Current Prizes

    1. Either a Smiths Everest PRS-25 or a Smiths Military PRS-29A (winner to choose)
    2. Second dibs on the Smiths Everest PRS-25 or Smiths Military PRS-29A.
    3. Vostok Amphibia 420725SE
    4. Vostok Amphibia 420945 ‘KGB’
    5. A made to measure watch strap from Steveostraps
    6. Victorinox Pioneer Alox 8-Feature Pocket Knife
    7. 'Harrison' by Jonathan Betts
    8. 'Harrison' by Jonathan Betts

    The Raffle

To take part, please post in this thread and donate a voluntary £5 per entry to https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/laurasbeads

Feel free to take part multiple times and if you are not interested in the prizes, you are welcome to donate anyway!

Please include your TZ-UK user name in the comments if it's not obvious.

As usual, I’ll maintain a list of the participants here and will let this run for a fortnight. Laura will personally draw the winner and runners-up on 29 October when she returns to the UK for her next check-up.

Postage will be covered to anywhere in the world.

    The Charity

Be Child Cancer Aware is dedicated to raising awareness of the signs and symptoms of all Cancers affecting Children and Teenagers. Be Child Cancer Aware are also sole sponsors of the Beads of Courage programme in UK hospitals. This programme offers help, encouragement and support during treatment childhood cancer and other serious illnesses.

Laura's Beads of Courage greatly helped her to communicate about her experiences and express her feelings. They also gave her something to look forward to during daunting hospital visits. Every coloured bead represents a different treatment or experience in order since first diagnosis and build up to tell the story of Laura's cancer journey as it progresses. For example, white beads represent chemotherapy sessions, yellow is a night spent in hospital, red are blood transfusions, green are days spent in isolation due to infection risk. Radiotherapy beads glow in the dark! There are also special beads that record specific landmarks and acts of courage.

Here are Laura’s Beads of Courage about a year ago, at Alder Hey:

Back then they finished shortly after the special pumpkin bead.
Today, the string still grows but at a slower pace with physiotherapy, regular scans and check-ups:

    The Watches

The winner can choose between two Timefactors classics, either a Smiths Military PRS-29A or a Smiths Everest PRS-25 depending on personal preference.

I have owned the watches from new, both purchased on 22 April 2014. They are both lovely and have been worn very sparingly. The (expired) warranty cards and instructions are present. The winner’s watch will be sent in a really nice Timefactors Pelicase which I think is a bit of a bonus. I’ve not had a chance to check the timekeeping recently, I doubt there are any issues but when I’m back from my latest round of travels next week I’ll post an update. The new owner can do exactly as they wish with the prize, I'm quite happy for them to sell immediately at the going rate on SC if it they so wish.

These watches need little introduction. Full specifications may be found in the links.

Smiths Military PRS-29A, 36mm with ETA 2804 hand-winding and hacking movement. These currently retail at £345.00 and are still available from Timefactors. http://www.timefactors.com/smithsprs29.htm

This has the two clip-on French leather straps in black and brown. Only the brown has been worn, and only a couple of times on my immaculately clean wrist. The original Timefactors grey NATO already went for the fundraiser so it will also come with an unbranded grey NATO.

Smiths Everest PRS-25, 40mm with Miyota 9015 automatic movement. These retailed at £245, are now out of stock and unlikely to return making them quite sought after. http://www.timefactors.com/smithsprs25.htm

The movement has the well known Miyota 9015 whirring rotor sound which is quite normal and although slightly disconcerting at first I have come to like as a characteristic of the watch.

There are a couple of very small scuffs on the bezel near the ’10 o’clock’ marker that have not shown up in the photographs.

The bracelet is sized for my 6 7/8” wrist and all of the spare links are present. It has been worn only a couple of times but I think has a couple of scuffs on the clasp. It will also come with a grey NATO.

barryw has very generously donated two classic Vostok Amphibia watches as runners-up prizes, for which we are very grateful. These have only been worn once so can be considered ‘as new’. Barry will send the watches directly to the winners.

First up is a Meranom Special Edition 420725 with the paddle hands, black bezel and Vostok automatic movement 2415. It will come on a nice Tropic dive band.

Second is a 420945 ‘KGB’ with original Vostok bracelet. This has the 2416 automatic movement with date. Whoever wins this had better watch out for Agent Banana.

    Consolation Prizes

Any made to measure watch strap from Steveostraps, including a buckle of choice if applicable. Steveo's work is well known here for being top notch and there is absolutely something for everyone. http://www.steveostraps.com

An unused Victorinox Pioneer Alox 8-Feature Pocket Knife donated by barryw: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-...1TW849H838B3NG

Two brand new copies of Harrison by Jonathan Betts: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Harrison-Jo...dp/0948065818/

Many thanks to Barry and in advance to everyone who I'm sure will make this another great success.

Thanks very much for kickstarting this.

Yes, no personal details in the thread. We'll contact the winners shortly after the draw.

I'll try to update the list in the order that donations appear on the JustGiving page.

Thanks, Dave. It's not showing yet but I will keep an eye on it. I think that you should receive an e-mail if successful, maybe someone can confirm?

Visitors to the JustGiving page will see that we have set a target of £500, which going from past experience I think is very possible. If this gets close to that goal I will be adding some of my customary consolation prizes.

I normally do, yes. It said to wait 24 hours for confirmation. If not, I'll stick in on a different card.
Either way, put me down for 10 please.

As the witching hour passes and most TZers are tucked up in bed dreaming dreams of unobtainable grails and hirsuit ladies, a massive 'thank you' to everyone who has donated or pledged so far. It is most heartwarming. Sweet dreams!

I have updated the list this morning (apologies to Dave+63 for overlooking his participation last night, I've now slotted you in). For clarity, I am listing in the order that names appear on the JustGiving page and will double-check ahead of the draw when the allocated numbers will become final. I'm aware that some members have had issues getting payments to go through, I understand that it can take 24 hours to process so please try to avoid donating twice as there is plenty of time.

Thanks once again, it was great to wake up to another flurry of donations.

    Muchas gracias!

The Amphibia watches are particularly easy to swap parts around on for a change of appearance. For anybody unfamiliar with the joys of modding Vostoks here are a couple of threads:

Done on my other card. Still says processing donation please allow 24 Hours?

Why won't Just Giving just take my money!!!

Any problems this time and I'll transfer the money directly to you Matthew?

It's probably trying to tell you that you have already done way more than enough in the way of supporting us this year

And yes, not a problem but give it some time.

Edit - worth waiting. Many thanks to you and everybody else for the generosity.

We'll certainly surpass the target, so I'll add some nice consolation prizes over the weekend

As promised, I'm adding some extra prizes. Maybe these will help to entice those coming in from a few Friday night bevvies feeling merry and generous.

First up, any made to measure watch strap from Steveostraps, including a buckle of choice if applicable. Steveo's work is well known here for being top notch and there is absolutely something for everyone. http://www.steveostraps.com

And two further consolation prizes of brand new copies of the excellent little Jonathan Betts book on John Harrison.

If either of the members drawn already have a copy of this I'll come up with an alternative.

    Cheers, Matthew

barryw has contacted me today to add an unused Victorinox Pioneer Alox 8-Feature Pocket Knife to the prize pot (knowing how much the TZ crowd love their knives). Many thanks, Barry.

I'll slot it in between the bespoke Steveo strap and the Harrison books.

    It's this model: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Victorinox-...1TW849H838B3NG
