You get what you pay for, my Stormshield+ from Specialsed Covers was £274. It’s the second one I’ve bought from them and can thoroughly recommend.
Hi guys, I have a "new to me" car arriving on Friday and am after a decent quality, cotton lined and breathable car cover that will protect it outside throughout the year and thus needs decent fasteners and some strength to it.
I've seen some nice ones from the likes of stormforce and others but these are £200 plus and thats beyond my budget really unless there really isn't a cheaper alternative out there. I've used cheap ones before with blankets underneath but of course the car sweats or stays damp underneath.
Any help much appreciated and if it helps the car is an R230 (57 plate) Mercedes SL 350 sport edition.
Many thanks in advance

In my experience, a cheap car cover is worse than no car cover.

I would be interested in this info as well.
Thanks guys and I suspected this might be the general opinion. Might see if I can rent a garage if the cover is going to be £300!!
Another vote for Specialised
Is the correct answer. Are you planning to use the car regularly? If you are, you'll need to clean and dry it before you put the cover on. The Stormshield cover has straps which pass under the car in front and behind the wheels, which stops most of the flapping, and they're tailored so they fit properly, but any movement of the cover will mark the paint, and if the car isn't thoroughly cleaned you may as well take a sander to it.
Yep I get that. The car is a weekend toy but will in no way be used in the wet.. based on my old car it will do around 5k a year, always cleaned after use but may be covered for anything up to a month without being used. My cars are detailed and mopped to the highest level so keeping them clean is not an issue. I thought these good quality covers were cotton or linen lined to prevent scratches as long as the car was cleaned and dried prior to fitting them.
I always use extra budgey cords disgonalky from wheel to wheel and across the middle of the car to prevent movement of the cover.

I've used outdoor covers with indifferent results , had an outdoor carcoon and rate highly and still use an indoor carcoon in a heated garage
Yeah I'm hoping a neighbour may have one, lots of retired people near me who may be glad of a few quid
I've now enquirer with 3 companies and it seems the £180-300 range is where a good generic cover- a fully tailored option sit price wise. More than I was looking to spend but I guess it's all relative when considering what the car cost and how it will improve the ability to stop it sweating and with a Mercedes of this era rusting around the rear arches!!
Managed to get a stormforce tailored cover with mirror pockets for £155... will feedback my thoughts in the next few weeks
Really?, that's interesting as my last car spent 15 months outside under a car cover ( except for the 5k miles I did in it) and I've seen no issues at all, mind you it was detailed within an inch of its life a lot too!
