Thank you for this, very interesting.
Good work on the antenna, too.
Received this watch a couple days ago. Looks like new but the battery was dead and decided take some pictures for you.
I had to make a DCF77 antenna to be able to sinchronize from Malaga. Worked beautifully.

Very unusual and intriguing. Did you find out what all 5 buttons do?
Does the antennae work just being near watch?
It's a rechargeable battery isn't it? Where did you get the replacement? (In case I ever need to replace mine).
Yes, I put the watch glass facing the coil. The coil acts like an electromagnet that is excited by the radio signal. Do you know how the magnetic field is represented in a magnet drawing? You put the watch inside that magnetic field and the internal antenna works much better.
interesting thing that antenna, do you have a schematic by any chance
Sorry, no schematics. It's just a coil and a soldered capacitor.
I learned about the Citizen wave receptor and took the idea from this page: https://journal.gladkiy.me/time-sync-dcf77/
The box I used is 35 mm x 40 mm x 80 mm. Enameled copper wire or magnet wire is 0.2 mm in diameter. Capacitor is 2200 picoFarad or 2.2 NanoFarad.
300 turns without overlapping the wire (maybe a few times, didn't care too much), it covers about 60mm of the box. Then just bring the ends together to one of the sides, fix them in place with some adhesive tape and solder the capacitor, one wire end to each pin.

I live in Fuengirola, in the southern coast of Spain, almost 2000 Km from the signal origin and behind some mountains. With this setup, it takes about one minute to synchronize.
