Steinhart: Very desirable watches, RRPs are very good prices in today's market, and they go out of stock all the time. Thus people are willing to pay high prices to get one now, even second hand.
Hi.
A few years ago, I bought the OVM, new, direct from Steinhart.
I can't remember how much I paid but I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have been more than £350 at the most.
I need to sell and having never flipped a watch before and knowing nothing other than second hand ones at the time weren't worth bothering with as they held their price well, I went on Ebay to try and get a feel for the asking price.
Imagine my surprise when I find just 2 for sale, 1 of which is over £600 and the other £700.
Why would this be?
They both make references to it being a rare and hard to find watch, but that's stretching it in the extreme in my opinion. Or am I missing something?
To be honest I'm wishing I'd paid more attention to second hand market prices as my other watch I'm selling is a Mido Commander chronograph which is hard to price as well. The only other example I can find anywhere is over £700 and again, I'm not sure that is realistic, although that one is easier from a personal perspective as I bought it on the forum for what I thought was a fair price and if I sold it on in this way I'd return the favour.
Any thoughts, particularly with regards to Steinhart would be appreciated.

Hi,
I bought a v2 OVM earlier this year from Chronomaster. Didn't bond with it, so flipped it on eBay for pretty much what I paid for it.
However, if you have a 1st gen OVM then these are more sought after - they have a black dial and 200m WR on the face. These are the models demanding more £. So if you're a lucky chap and want to sell, then make sure you advertise it as a v1
Good luck!
Adam
Oh. Great.
Mine must be v1 then, as it is a black face (I thought they all were), with 200m written on the dial.
I like the watch and I'm still hoping I won't need to sell in the end but if I'm being honest, the 200m written on the front is a bit of a turn off for me. It's actually 300m resistance and just has 200m to ape the watch it's a homage to.
Those 2 you see listed are a bit cheeky in their price. Typically £525 would be more realistic

Chancers do list the Mark 1 on e-bay at £700+, but they don't sell - that is just crazy money.
I think you could get a Mark 1 between £350 and £450.
There is a nice Gnomon limited edition military on e-bay at present and not over Priced at £550.00. If the seller would take £475.00 I think it would be a great deal, especially with the domed acrylic crystal.
Unless it's in ropey condition, these typically reach £450+. As mentioned, the high figures you've seen are extremely optimistic.

Sounds like what the first gen Seiko Monsters go for on the market...
Well played for doing your homework. It always pays off. I sold a mint 1 year old CWC SBS for £200 a couple of years ago because I didn't realise how sought after they were. A lesson learned the hard way!

Serves me right for opening my mouth. I had noticed that the guy on e-bay selling the Gnomon limited edition military had reduced it to £500 or best offer. I was going to go in later and offer him £450 only to find that it has just been sold for £450.
A great deal for someone - I hope it was someone on here.
Here's another stunning deal for anyone looking for a Mark 1 Vintage Red.
That is a really good price and buy now - it won't be there for long.
