Underrated - The Limey. A very watchable Terence Stamp flick.

Overrated - Any of the daft superhero stuff. Just don't see the appeal.

Underrated - 'Locke' with Tom Hardy. Came out a few years ago and is an acting tour de force! Almost the entire film is Tom Hardy driving in his car on a rainy night on the speaker phone with a few significant people while his world slowly crumbles around him.

    Watch it!!

Agreed - I love 'Galaxy Quest'. Seriously underrated comedy. Alan Rickman is fantastic in it.

Love this film . Watch it at least once a year. It makes me laugh so much.

Nope loved "The Hateful Eight". Best film I saw that year and one of Tarantino's bests.

On a more superficial note he has the best hairstyle ever, something I have endeavoured to emulate since my mid twenties.
You know Tobe Hooper passed away the other week?

Overrated: 'A Bout de Souffle' (aka 'Breathless'). I understand its stylistic importance re the emergence of cinema verite, but I don't think it's aged well and I find it, frankly, boring.

Underrated: 'The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford'. Up there with the best films made since the turn of the century, in my opinion, with tremendous thematic depth and beautiful cinematography (by Roger Deakins).

Underrated: Duel (early Spielberg film, Terminator-esq in style IMHO)
Underrated: Inception - gets better with each watch as you get your head around dream within a dream within a dream etc.

I also have to disagree with Interstellar being overrated. Seen it several times now and I think it gets better the more you watch it as you get your head around the time and space aspect. Like Inception.
How can you watch interstellar several times. Lost the will to live the first time?

I just can't do movies which think themselves too clever, or ones which make me more miserable than when I started.

    Thumbs up

Overrated - 'The Blues Brothers'. What a pile of self-indulgent poop!!

    Soundtrack its only redeeming feature.

Sorry - disagree - pretty dire film.

Underrated Tarantino though - 'Inglorious Bastards'.

Overrated - 2001 A Space Odyssey. Enormous self indulgent sequences where absolutely nothing happens.

Taxi Driver - It’s been many years since I saw it but remember wondering what all the fuss was about.

    underrated-The Grand Hotel Budapest

Overrated-Skyfall(not a patch on Casino Royale)

  20. #70

Agreed - excellent film and not on anyone's radar. I watched it on a flight a few years ago and was surprised it never had any marketing behind it to help it reach larger audiences. Classic, slow-burn period western.

Oh...seriously overrated - 'The Rocky Horror Picture Show'. What a pile of cr@p!!!

I think you need to be drunk or stoned to give it more than 5/10. Susan Sarandon looks hot though. :)

Underrated - possibly ignored would be a better descriptor - but excellent, and now on Netflix:

How I Spent My Summer Vacation
(also known as Get The Gringo) stars Mel Gibson. If Mel hadn't so utterly and spectacularly poisoned his career by being, well, Mel Gibson, this 2012 film might well have put him back up there. but I suspect his goose is fully cooked these days. Nevertheless, I always loved his 1999 film Payback, and this is more of the same. He's an unrepentant scumbag, but just a bit cleverer than the others, and with his own sense of moral purpose. Set in a crazy Mexican prison, this is well worth a watch even though you know from about 34 seconds in how it's going to pan out.

Overrated - Apocolypse now, never really got the hype, would rather watch Platoon or FMJ any day
Underrated - District 9, in my top 10 for sure, great action, good story, good cgi, funny too
