    Autorist by John Harwood 1924?

    Hi

A friend has what he thinks is one of the first automatic military watches, an Autorist by John Harwood in a solid gold case, he says it was made to stop soldiers with muddy fingers from messing up their manual hand wound watches.

It winds via a strange system where the strap moves one side of the lugs creating an up/down motion, there is a part missing and the movement is filthy but hoping someone here can give me some info on the watch.

Here are a few pictures -

    That's a very nice piece!
I know a little about the Autorist, it was first registered by the company in 1931. The watch is unusual in that it winds by means of the lugs at one end moving up and down, not very good and they didn't last long. It was marketed initially by Vogt (Fortis).
