Amazing story indeed.
Frightening too, that just one man's decision averted a nuclear Armageddon. :-(

Interesting article. Amazing to think how close we came to the brink. Not for the only time too I sure.
I watched Thirteen Days with my daughter last weekend, to help her with he GCSE History work.
I've seen it before, but it came pretty damned close over Cuba. Good film too.
So clever my foot fell off.
RIP - what a hero and interesting guy! I saw the documentary 'The Man Who Saved the World' last year and was impressed with Stanislav's intelligence, compassion and forethought, sad that he had to endure tough treatment from the Russian authorities. The world desperately needs more people like Stanislav..
I heard about this on Radio 4 the other day. Amazing story.
Interesting this happened in 1983 - which was the same year that War Games came out.

A very brave and exceptional guy to make the decision he did in the culture of the Soviet Union at the time.
