New Omega Railmaster non limited edition

These will be available from November apparently just as a heads up. Really loving the look of this watch

  2. #2
    Lovely looking watch. Very handsome.

I'm an Omega fan but that leaves me a little cold.

Movement aside, nothing I don't see from many boutique brands for a hell of a lot less.

I reckon the fact is isn't limited edition might make it quite rare!

Now that is a nice looking watch, with an advanced movement. I think it would be a complement to the Rolex Explorer 1. Anyone have the exact model number?

If you look at the Omega website it will be their cheapest men’s watch after the SMPc and Speedy Pro

    And the cheapest master chronometer

  13. #13
What movement is in the watch ? (The Same one in new aqua terra ?)

Solid case back or see-through ?

That price is actually a bargain for a METAS chronometer. The styling isn't to everyone's tastes (although personally i like it) but I reckon this watch is potentially going to give Tudor sleepless nights (particularly as discounts on Omega are relatively easy to get so that £3,600 watch becomes a £3k watch) and possibly make people think twice about a Rolex Explorer.

    Solid on these

Interestingly I tried the new Aqua Terra today in the Omega Boutique - very sporty watches but I'm not totally sold on them as I think they will look dated soon.

That's a really nice watch but I can't but feel it's let down by the plain hands. I wonder if arrow (or maybe sword) hands would be better? All IMHO of course.

This was my opinion at first, but seeing that pic in the second reply I think I've changed my mind. This has really grown on my and that particular pic caught my eye far more than I expected. I don't think the price is out the way personally.

Other than the 'improved' movement, dial wise not a patch compared to the previous model.

Not a fan of the 'flat' dial and dislike the faux aged lume.

The hands lack contrast and look 'plain'

For me I think the hands need to be the plain type(I like these, they have a militarian look) as there's more than enough going on with the dial already. The lollipop second is enough.

I totally agree - the hands look cheapen the look. The arrow hands from the AT would suit far better.

Those hands are the exact copy of the ones on my '65 Seamaster SM300 (non sword hand model) I wonder if the designer has looked at a Seamaster or Railmaster from around 60' to 65' to gain the inspiration ?

I get the attempt at a vintage look but the plain flat hands and the simple printed dial with no metallic surrounds on the indices reduce this to very cheap-to-produce technology, and it looks it.
Not sure it needs crosshairs either.
I think it uses the 8806 calibre too, which lacks timesone setting (aka hour hacking), so not very attractive, to me, at least.

I really like that. Can totally see why others aren't keen but the no-nonsense classic style really appeals to me. I won't be rushing out to buy three at that price but it's certainly one I'll keep my eye on.

Wouldn't class this as high end. Oris for less than a third of the price if this look is your 'thang'.

The price is mental but that's what you expect these days, like others have said no different from Rolex pricing a 3 hander at £4K and up, the rest is aesthetics and whether you like the design or not.
They do showcase the value of micro and more value oriented brands though imho. You get a watch aesthetically nice with decent movements for 10 times less in price.

Unfortunately you get what you pay for. Micro and more value oriented brands are just that. If you want Omega or Rolex it's gonna cost.
I have some micro brand watches with great movements and great looks but they fill a different niche.

I don't think this is perfect either, but this shows that this kind of utilitarian aesthetic doesn't need to look quite so flat

Winding crown is horrible IMO, but we're going to have to get used to it I think. The hands & 'crosshairs' on dial detract so much.

I like the case, and nothing else. This is going to be a "I really wish I bought the explorer 1" type of watch for a lot of people, in a few years.

I like it. Though it does look like Hodinkee were the design consultants, particularly when seen on the hipster tweed strap.

I saw the new 39 mm Explorer a few weeks ago and it seemed a very plain and over-priced watch; if I was buying a 'keeper' I think I'd rather have the Railmaster and keep the change.

On first look, before noticing some of the design issues that were pointed out, I liked it. I'd still pick an Explorer over this though. It also reminds me that I really need to get hold of a 90's dynamic again at some point!

The 90's dynamic is so much better than this effort. I did try to post a picture earlier, but photobucket stuffed me.

Fantastic watch, classic design cues mixed with not even contemporary at the time, or even present day ideas. Plus a solid movement to boot.
Too much emphasis put on super metas bleurgh bleurgh bleurgh time keeping certification. Just an excuse to squeeze more money out of us if you ask me.

Somebody please post a pic of a 90's dynamic, just to brighten up all our days.

I think it was introduced in 1997 but don't know when it was discontinued. I believe it's 36mm with the Omega version of the 2892 (1120??) Last time I looked they were selling for £600 but I bet they've gone up since then. Everything else has.

Pricing aside I think it looks great and I would love one. I think it's well balanced and I like the slate look to the dial.

Not for me, at least not yet. Interesting movement for sure, but I wouldn't trade the previous incarnation for it.

I suspect it'll go the way of the previous version, and the third gen Dynamic range for that matter; that is, a slow seller when in the current line up, but when discontinued becoming more appreciated and picking up a following.

How that ^^^ didn't sell like hot cakes is a mystery! Was it really down to no date window as some have suggested?

The lack of date is the only reason I don't own a Railmaster, the 36mm is, IMO, otherwise pretty perfect!

No date is so liberating. I'm so glad that's not a deal breaker for me.
