    Amazon Beobachtungsuhr...

I was browsing Amazon Monday evening and stumbled across this little (45mm across including the crown.) Homage WW2 German Pilot's watch..

It stated that it was manual wind and in style of the Beobachtungsuhr..

It arrived today, very well packaged and fitted with a very nice soft 22mm leather "vintage styled" aviator strap, but not being a fan of 2 piece leather straps, i quickly swapped it over to a nice sand NATO which compliments the faux patina dial and hand set very well.

The case is nicely executed with a beadblasted case and brushed steel caseback.

    Limited run of 500 piece's.

It has a nice 3mm thick domed glass which I assume is mineral glass.

The movement inside is a Chinese clone of the Unitas 6497(/8)

It winds very smoothly and seems to be keeping excellent time.

A few images just taken -

Not a bad little homage for £117.00. ;)

    Thanks. :)

No, the dial is matt black, it's rather nice, I've just ordered a lovely distressed leather NATO for it from Watchgecko with matching beadblasted hardware.. I will update once it arrives. ;)

    The strap -

That'll look fantastic on the strap. Looks like a good little buy at that price, look forward to seeing how it fares with some time on the wrist

    Thanks Steve! :)

The strap should hopefully be with me for the weekend, I've just given it a full wind, so I will see how it wears over the next week or 2 and report back..

It does seem to be pretty good value for money.. I can't think of another sub £120.00 mechanical watch that has wowed me and oozed as much wrist presence as this. ;)

Pedant, moi? Observer/Navigators kit please Karl. Their pilots were not issued watches like ours, iirc.
Reminds me of my original type A dial Wempe, Thommen cal.31. Unwearable at 55mm but great to have owned one.
For under £120 thats a cracking find mate.

It's not bad is it Paul, cost me £145.00 all in. I'd love an original, but taking in account the size and price, this seemed like the more sensible alternative. :D

The Unitas 6497/8 don't have centre seconds, so it's not a simple clone, there has to be at least something extra added.

Someone mentioned that these aren't pilot's watches. Beobachtungsuhr literally translates as observation watch, although they are also commonly called fliegeruhren, which could translate as either pilot watch or flyer watch.

A lot of Luftwaffe pilots chose the 1 and later 2 button Hanhart/Glashutte chrono, they probably got a deal on them but they were personal items and NOT issued kit. The B-hur was part of the flying equipment, owned and maintained by their air ministry, not the crewman.

    Amazon Beobachtungsuhr...

As a result of this thread I thought I would give the watch a go.

It arrived today, I have to agree it great for the money.

I have a few similar style watches and whilst it is no where near the quality of a Fortis or Steinhart it's compares well for the price.

    Cheers

    John

How is the lume on those, please? And, do you have any photos of the movement? Would love to see this modified Unitas-Clone.

You seem to be disagreeing in tone but agreeing in what is said. It's confusing.

Lume is pants. It's only on the hands.

Re the movement I am not an expert but it does look like a Unitas clone and a poorly finished one at that!

    Cheers
