British Empire Forces: WWII Battle of Hong Kong: Personal Watch Found & (Re-United)

I've not posted in a while, nevertheless it's good to be back.

The following link is to a recent story about a wristwatch discovered by a metal detectorist in Hong Kong, China (ex. British Crown Colony).
Whilst the watch found does not appear to have been official issue, it's interesting in the context of British military watches (and noting the British Empire Forces category of the time):

I imagine that there have been some interesting finds over the years elsewhere, e.g. crash sites and aircrew watches.

    Best wishes,

    AP.

Thanks for the warm welcome back. It was a pleasure posting such a fascinating story on the forum, and with its incomparable membership :-)

On a train going through the Belgian countryside last week, staring wistfully out of the window, it occurred to me that there would be some fascinating British military watches still tucked u'neath the earth. I suppose that goes for many places nowadays, be that as it may. Not many likely come up shiny, but among the best don't from war.

    Cheers,
    AP. :-)

I'll add my appreciation of the article and a thumbs-up for hearing from you again.

The amount of personal items that turn up even now at scenes of conflict is a sad reminder of how so many ended their lives.

I was thinking about you just last week, wondering how you were. Good to "see" you around.

    Cheers

By chance I was myself musing over how some of the old boys don't visit these days and also thought of Pottinger. Eisd! O Eisd! ;-)

It's really great to see you back AP and thanks for the link; it very much puts me in mind of an exhibition about the Katyń massacre I saw at the Polish Army Museum a couple of years ago. Sadly I only had an Iphone with me and this was the only photo I managed to take:

Here's a link that gives you a flavour of the exhibition.
