I stumbled across these online earlier today. As a weekend/casual watch, military-inspired with a bit of a twist they seem to have a lot going for them:
- 40mm with 20mm lugs
- Aluminium case (instead of resin)
- Plexi crystal
- set-and-forget quartz movement without a date
- Indiglo dial (assume you press the crown and the dial illuminates?)
- £69!
Apparently they've only just been released, but are now available to order (though even the Timex site shows them sometimes and others not, so possibly only very recently added to the online catalogue). Anyone got one yet?

I don't generally like Arabic numerals and 40mm is a tad small.... BUT, I do like the white dialled version and one of these might be perfect for a Kenyan work trip later this year. It is the sort of watch that would not attract unwanted attention. My Sinn U2 has been to plenty of remote / hostile places and I've been lucky..... but if I wore either of my Sinn's and a scroat tried to take it, then someone is going to get hurt! (as the last Cameroonian who tried to rob me found out).
At the end of trips I tend to give gear away and a Timex like that would be a nice gift for a local .....
I was actually thinking this is a decent size compared to the 34-38mm size of vintage field watches. No doubt they wear a little larger than a 40mm dive watch as the dial is actually bigger. I'm also thinking of something that fits my interest in watches, but that I don't need to be precious about. Having worn a g-shock for most activities dangerous to a decent watch, I do miss having something analogue and these compare well on price with something like a Hamilton or a Marathon watch. Especially like the blue one. Would be interesting to see how light it feels compared to the normal plastic variant. Timex has been doing some cool stuff recently, while not seeming to raise their prices too much. Kudos to them.
I do wonder how easily they will scratch...??? I assume the color is anodized.

Good spot. I like the blue or the brown, bit different. Website says it's 50m but doesn't really make much difference. Pity the crown isn't coloured too though.
I've had the plastic version of this and also the brass bodied Expedition. I now have a Waterbury and there's a noticeable difference in quality - it feels like a real watch rather than a toy. For the same price you get mineral crystal, a date and a proper leather strap rather than a ghastly nato.

Reminds me of something that design....
I prefer the military design, less derivative.
It's obvious what my watch was inspired by, but now having only a nominal interest in watches I bought it because it was cheap and practical. My point was more about the quality of the Waterbury range compared with the Camper or Expedition ranges and the link I posted is for a military design.

Really like these especially the black and the brown variants, good to see it has an acrylic crystal.Wish they did it in 38mm and a sterile dial too.

I've ordered the black one direct from the Timex site. I was thinking about reacquiring a CWC G10, not having a quartz analogue in my collection currently, although I am waiting for Eddie's COSC PRS-18Q. In the meantime, this will hopefully fill the gap.
The specs are good (although the WR could be a bit better) , the size is good for me and a nice thin height. I love the acrylic, the dial and the hands - oh and the price.

Looks great, definitely worth a try.It is ok for the price, loud tick though i think.
I had the resin version and even the minute hand didn't hit the markers!
I got the browny version but it's rubbish. The tick is very loud, and doesn't hit 3/4's of the markers. Plus it's only water resistant to 30m not 50. So I wouldnt swim with it - consider that the water bury below is cheaper yet much better equipped.

Yeah the seconds were nowhere near.
Minute hand was off too but that may be related to mine losing time.
It looks nice but I'm returning for a refund rather than replacement which tells it's own story.
A CWC is far superior and not too far off in price of you buy used

I just ordered the last one in stock. I wonder if tz discussions sometimes prompt spikes in sales, and whether the retailer ever knows it was because of a forum discussion. Anyway, looking forward to receiving it. I bought another Waterbury model for my dad a year or two ago - they really look fantastic. Lots of enjoyment without breaking the bank.
My Mk1 in black has just arrived and so far I'm relieved. Sure enough the seconds hand only hits the markers for half the dial but I've experienced that on many quartz including on a new Seiko Tuna. The dial, hands and acrylic crystal are great and the indiglo dial is a really nice shade of blue. It weighs nothing and feels invisible. I'm pleased with it for the money. :)

Incredibly comfortable on a beat up Phoenix NATO I had at the back of the drawer. I took the opportunity to weigh it. On the NATO it comes in at 32.1 gms or 1.1 oz. Now that's lightweight. Not lost any time since I set it on Friday. :)
