No. Without extension it's still good for 8 inch wrist.

Unscrew the extension at the clasp side. You must use the same screw to attach a link as it's a shorter one iirc.
Unscrew the extension from bracelet links and screw an extra link in it's place.

(The smaller screw was the case with the dssd anyway. I'm assuming the set up is similar on the new sd)

Don't forget to keep an eye on your bracelet screws after you have finished. There's only a small chance they will become loose but by undoing them you will inevitably lose some of the loctite.

I did this with my SD4000, and I much preferred the resulting bracelet. It's a simple job, and unless you're a gorilla, the links that come with the watch should suffice.

I am a gorilla !!! No spare links - wear it on the full bracelet - Have read it can be more comfortable without the extension piece, so wondered if I take it out if I need links in its place.
Also will it affect the glidelock ?

Removing the extension doesn't affect the glide lock, you may need a link or two to allow it to fit.

The old Loctite needs to be cleaned off and fresh Loctite needs to be applied. It costs a couple/few quid for a small bottle, and it seems silly to risk dropping or losing a several thousand £££ watch by saving on Loctite.

    Have you done it yet?
I want to know if the extension clasp screw is the same set up as the dssd.

I had the dive extension taken off my D-Blue and SD43. It feels more comfortable to me. Needed two extra links like yourself but these were provided free for me which was great. They aren't cheap.
