Thread: Lego - Taj Mahal - model 10189 - HOW MUCH??!!

Red face Lego - Taj Mahal - model 10189 - HOW MUCH??!!

I have a mint, open boxed example of this rare, discontinued Lego set. All bricks still sealed in original plastic bags. I bought it in 2009 for £299 but only just this week decided to possibly build it.

However - I just found out that Lego collectors are paying £1,500 and above for these sets.

5,922 pieces and Lego will never make a larger set apparently. So I am now planning NOT to build it and will probably hang onto it as an investment. :) Not a bad return in 8 years! Wish I'd bought a few more sets now.

There are always Lego sets fetching a premium right up until Lego decide to release a reissue or a bigger set or something. Then the prices can be adversely affected.
Also,I'm guessing that collectors are paying 1.5k for mint, unopened boxes rather than opened ones so you might find it attracts a lowermost premium. Either way, perhaps it's best to sell it while you can find the prices appear to be at a premium now?

Brand new, unopened seem to be selling for over £2,000. Mine has an open, slightly damaged box but apart from that is brand new, with unopened plastic packs containing the 6kg of pieces!

Any hard-core Lego collectors on TZ? :)

Those are my all time favourite ads, especially the first one.

I can't wait for the new UCS Millennium Falcon in October... even if it's £500 (and there's a good chance that it will be) it's going to end up in my mitts.

$700 in the US so whatever that equates to in rip off Britain...

Wish I'd kept my original set now instead of selling it back in 2011, sold it for $1200 (sold to someone in the states) apparently they go for $5000 now...

I had the opportunity to buy one in Bangalore Airport about 3 years ago, but decided against it as they wanted $500 for it.

    Doh!

If you happen to also have an unopened Imperial Star Destroyer 10030 set knocking around, drop me a PM ;-)
