Are any phones not made in China?

Yes but chinese brands specifically xiaomi.

I recently bought my father in law a note 4 after he was impressed with my wife's and my redmi 3s primes.

He likes it except he would prefer the smaller form of the 3s. Neither he nor my wife mind the miui OS, although I have unlocked mine and installed a fairly stock android OS. Battery life for 3s is great, even better for the note 4 I believe.

You must take care to buy a xiaomi with band 20 to ensure compatibility if your network uses this.

I would check hotukdeals and reddit pickanandroidforme or chinaphones to get the latest deals and into on what phones are best.

To answer your other question, I bought from aliexpress. That's normally cheapest but shipping takes a two to three weeks. You can buy from other places like gearbest which have EU warehouses.

I've had a Redmi Note 3 for 6 months or so. Can't fault it for the price. Even the Miui operating system is OK. Was planning on putting a custom rom on, but didn't bother. Was around £136 then. No import charges from the Xiaomi Store on Aliexpress.

I see you can get the RN4 from the same source for @£111 which is a bargain. RN3 has Snapdragon 650 whereas RN4 has SD625, but there's nothing in it. SD625 uses less battery.

Just in case you're unaware, as mentioned you should get a 'global rom version', which should include band20, (O2, Giffgaff, some 3 LTE bands I think) something the Chinese roms exclude.

My brother has something called "Huiwei n.9" which sounds like something on a menu but is infact an excellent mobile phone.

Huawei is quite mainstream and already has a global footprint so not exactly a small player.

In the last few years, these brands such as Oppo, Huawei, Vivo have made tremendous efforts at capturing the Asian market and they are doing a great job at it. I predict that within a decade or so, they will probably supplant Samsung if not Apple as well to become the main players. Like what Japanese/German automakers have been doing since the 70's.

I have a Huawei P9 lite and it is great. It has good specs, great screen and a 3000mAh battery.
I too believe that Huawei will be leading the phone market in a matter of years.

    2 weeks apparently - http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/1409...y-battery-life

Considering my NEW iPhone 7 (bought in April) barely gets thru the day sometimes which as previous ones will only get worse with time, I would love to have something with some much juice under the hood. Problem is it weighs 330 grams, so nearly 3 times the weight of the iPhone, so would probably easily rip the pockets of my trousers .

I never-ever understood why Apple does not offer an extra battery capacity version to their lineup, I think that would be a great seller and considering the almost zero additional cost they would have to build on, versus the hefty premium they could charge for it, it would make business sense I think....oh, but wait, if you had enough battery and not running out of juice, that would drop one of the major factors that drives people to buy a new(er) iPhone.

That is the genius of Apple - pre-programmed , fine-tuned obsolescence - others have followed suit.

A word of warning, have read on the web re malware which plagues Chinese mobiles and even come 'pre-installed' on the factory sealed handsets. If you're planning to do some mobile banking, work etc or keep an any sensitive info, I'd think twice about buying one. YMMW.

I have a Xioami Mi5 phone, great phone, still good spec's.
Also have bought two Xioami redmi 4's for daughter n mother in law, again great phones for around £150 and runs latest Android.
Easiest way is buy of a UK seller on ebay, all brand new and sealed, just make sure you get one with Global ROM and Google play store already installed.
