The White Dial Pan-Am GMT - Rolex and Steinhart Content

Here is a strange tail leading to a new arrival today. Let's start at the beginning and this is the Watch on which this story is based.

The watch above is the extremely rare Rolex white dial Pan-Am GMT from the late 50s with the Bakelite bezel insert. For many years collectors did not believe that the watch actually existed such was the scarcity of it. For those interested in the back story to this watch there is an interesting article in the link below.

    https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/Al...MT-Master-6542

Fast forward to 2011 and our chums at Steinhart still in their early days are taking commissions from people to make up limited editions. They were approached by 'Horlogeforum' (a Dutch watch forum) to make 40 Pam-Am white dial GMTs for it's members.

The members were given the choice of the type of crystal they wanted in their watch. The choice was flat sapphire with cyclops, domed sapphire with cyclops or high domed acrylic without cyclops, the later being the most desirable version amongst collectors.

The watches sold out very quickly and came with a certificate containing the name of the original buyer.

So we have a watch with only one or two Rolex examples known to exist and an additional 40 Steinhart watches. Other manufactures like Squale have since produced similar watches.

That's very nice. And a rare one with a story too. I hope it is a keeper for you.

Nice. Reminds me of the debaufre I recently sold with the white dial.
In the spirit of how you came into possession of the watch I would like to say "please message me if you are ever looking to sell it"

I really like the white dial on this piece. I am wearing my Steinhart gmt today and it is a great value watch indeed.

'Tis a transient fancy; the flittering butterfly's ephemeral infatuation with each bloom.

    Nice one though.

Lovely review - I find it hard to knock Steinhart when you take into consideration their build quality and price!

I'm saying nothing, my last stupid comment cost me £25.00.

I too like a Steinhart! It'll stay my daily even when I get my Rolex.
