I'm sure you'd get 10% at some of the smaller ad's
My friend is looking at a rolex datejust and is ready to purchase a new one. Does anyone know a good place in Manchester to buy from and what discount if any should she be looking for?
I'm sure you'd get 10% at some of the smaller ad's
Bet you don't.
Robinson I think you meant.
Most would offer a discount face to face, but so many don't ask. Go in knowing what you want, ask if in stock and would they offer the discount if you buy today. No use having small talk if it's a no, just move on to the next one and let them watch you through the window.
My understanding is that any Rolex AD who gives discounts to total strangers on key stainless steel models, risks losing their agency. Plenty of shops already have experienced this. Rolex seem determined to hold prices; if they don't, down go second hand prices on your Rolex.
Still, give it a go........
Two tone my mum achieved 10% with a diamond dot dial. Goldsmiths only offered 3% then moved to 4% when pushed. Both ads had this model in stock
Can't fault my mum for saving £850 off the rrp. Everybody loves a deal. The £850 saved gave my mum a bigger smile let alone buying her first luxury Rolex in her mid 60's
I've said it before and will do again. I joined for knowledge, yet find many don't have it, but type anyway. If you are uninformed, isn't it better to just stay off a thread?
It's more than doable - I bought my wife a SS model in February with 12.5%, 50% off a service, a discount voucher for use online and plenty of coffee

Oh dear. Perhaps that special, special relationship is not quite so special after all...
I casually asked about discount on a ladies bi metal datejust (think the model is just over 8k) and was told 8%. As I said it was a casual ask when buying another watch so I'm sure I could get more. I'd want 15% to be honest as ladies don't hold their value as well - not because I'd want to sell it and yes the value should be irrelevant, but that's what I'd aim for.
I bought my partner a pre owned one for 2.8k a couple of years back (late 90's I think) and was just considering an upgrade.
Funny but I easily got £250 off a BLNR and a hulk not that long ago, doubt I would now.
Did I say or even imply that? I wholeheartedly support the idea of a member seeking best value.....in fact I wish more would! My comment about a special relationship referred to a member who has celebrated such a thing with his AD, but appears not in fact to be enjoying any special level of discount.
What was/were the watch/watches you have offered me in the past? Was it definitely in one of my four shops? There are two more with the same surname in the area that are not owned or run by me. If it was one of my shops, did you approach me personally as a fellow tz-er, or did you walk in and speak with one of my eighty colleagues? If someone else offered more, was it in part-exchange for another watch they had for sale that, let us say, was £1,500 more expensive than I might sell it for?
I try to do my bit here as a member and only today have helped three tz-ukers with significant enquiries, for no advantage to myself. It is a dealer's lot to get a kicking on tz-uk occasionally and I'm genuinely sorry if I actually have given you cause to complain, but without knowing our history I can't respond properly.

Funny enough Haywood l actually phoned two of your shops today Regaurding 19 gold sovereigns l was thinking about selling the first in the market told me they were paying 160 quid on sovereigns, the second in b'head told me they were also paying 160 quid on sovereigns today when l asked what they were paying tomorrow she hung up, but funny enough if l'd have took the deal would have cost me around 1300 quid, so l passed.

No idea if this happened, but it's no surprise if bullion dealers and coin specialists offer more for 19 sovereigns than a high street jeweller, with the latter's greater costs of retail to bear.
If conversely you offer the bullion / coin dealer a nice diamond piece or a vintage Rolex, will you complain about the prices they offer for those?
I don't think this thread was the place to vent your unrelated agenda and note that you have chosen not to answer my questions, which were relevant.
It would not be fair to the OP to continue this further here.

Funny enough you've also offered me two quotes on a Rolex LV ceramic the first time it was on my wrist you offered £3500 it was about 3weeks old but you'd pay a bit more if l came in with the B&P, the second time was about 4mths ago you offered 5k, also what difference does it make weather l'm a tzer or not, and l aint venting anything.
I don't think you approached me, but equally don't think I'll rise to this any further.

If you kept coming in to my shop every other week asking for prices on this that and the other, then buying or selling nowt I'd bar you.
If you were quoting me those prices l'd be happy for you to bar me,but as it was l was shopping around for the best price on a couple of occassions, the first occasion was about 3yrs ago, the2nd was over the internet 4mths ago, oh and phoned up yesterday about a few sovereigns so hardly every other week.

The whole haggling thing irritates me too, but sadly many luxury watch brands' prices are either an opening gambit or a bluff. They know that to some money is no object and they will pay without hesitation, so why not charge those prices where possible. However they also know that the same products are available for less elsewhere, and they will have to compete for customers who know this.
There's also an extent to which the initial high price is a kind of advertising campaign, allowing the customer to feel good about a discount on a watch that was never worth the asking price in the first place. Frankly I hate the whole haggling process in person, and I despise being on the other end of it. I am however quite happy to search for the best price online and around the world. Either way, unless you just enjoy burning money it seems we're stuck with it. Rolex clearly try to avoid this kind of thing, it's very much part of their strategy that their watches cost what they cost and so keep their value, but clearly even they can't control everything.
