OK, give it up - I saw the perfect reg this afternoon. Subtle, discrete, and correct. Perfect - no notes.

    (And yes - I checked. An '06.)

Dreadful, ruins what looks like a fancy car, although it is white I suppose.

You will have to thank my wife for the very poor pic and take my word for it but an appropriate number of 70 YS

How would you define a good plate out of interest? Personally I'd say the above is objectively better than a lot of the misspaced plates we see in here (albeit some of them are a good laugh, particularly the plumbers!).

Saw GA11OP N on an Evoque (IIRC) the other day. I know it’s not spaced correctly but I still thought it was quite good.

    I haven’t a definition, just IMO it isn’t.

Presumably it’s supposed to say TOYS (which it doesn’t of course)? Suppose okay if the owner has a chain of toy shops, otherwise just a random word.

As with the misspaced plates we don’t know if this has been messed with either - dodgy screw for example.

I took it as written given the picture isn't entirely clear (lol) - so 70 YS.

I don't see that as an attempt to say a word at all. It's objectively a good plate (length), and presumably will hold meaning to the owner (e.g. initials, DOB). Assumptions of course, but the thing that gets me with the long plates that need to be messed about with to mean something, is they're one run in with the police away from being permanently scuppered (i.e. the letter from DVLA posted above with a final chance before withdrawal notice).

Just my 2 cents of course, options will vary and the only correct answer is that it's all a load of nonsense!

It was done as 70 YS on the back so not sure what the representation was - for me it was TOYS that was the best as the car was a great toy.

For me number plates have always been of interest since I was a little boy - comes from the car games I played with my Dad to pass the journey. Making words, sayings etc. or just working up or down the alphabet with the date letter or perhaps counting up down with the numbers.

That evolved to pointing out interesting combinations be they funny, really expensive, appropriate or clever. Some people don’t even realise their plate is an interesting one but other people try too hard to make theirs something. Since his passing I have missed that interaction so this thread is an outlet for me and that “hobby” I suppose.

I will try and teach my wife that she needs to get better pictures and perhaps use the zoom function :-)

Oh, and here is another appropriate one….

70 TS is apparently on a white Audi Q2 whilst TOY 5 is on a grey 718 Cayman so the photo doesn't seem to fit either car.

They're both both great number plates in my opinion!

This came through the door today. Lists the top auction prices achieved for plates over the last 6 months.

A few stood out, mainly PAT 3k for over £100k. On the topic of 'Toys' being discussed above, 8 TOY went for over £50k.

To someone named Sarah presumably, but I agree the price seems very high for a 7 digit plate with a random 22 in it.

I was trying to work out why it was in there - didn’t realise the model name was Naraya. Thought it might have been the owners name :-)

£5m - is that what they cost?!

UNTlE, nothing spectacular but not messed with.

Ever since a kid I have liked looking at number plates (back in the 50/60s we dident have game stations/PCs etc) one of my dog walking mates hates them, I asked him why the other day and he said he wanted one a few years ago when he bought a new car but his wife wouldent let him have one so being envious and jealous of people who do own then makes him "hate" them, I imagine there are quite a few others haters who are like him envious/jealous

I think it is rather well played with this - those that know spot it, the others just see it as a normal plate.

£500k on a plate could not have got you closer to the car name, so so harm done IMHO.

    Really tasteless.
The plate is pretty poor too.
I would be embarrassed to drive that.

Totally agree. I didn’t know the name of the car before I saw this plate. You you can’t get a better plate than this for the car. It’s a - If you know, you know situation.

Laughing at that comment more than I should.

I’d happily drive it if the owner needed it looking after.

BO55 XYZ (i.e. anything) probably always worth buying.

    Awful. I cannot stand them.

I had BD55 xxx issued on my Impreza and was so embarrassed that people might think I had a BOSS plate, I ended up buying a private one to disguise it!!!

Gotta agree with this. The BO55 plate is the ultimate in 'look at me I'm important in my own little world' plate.

Commonly seen on 5+ year old Range Rovers......
