    The marvellous Gerard Hoffnung, at the Oxford Union in 1958, sadly he died from a brain haemorrhage the following year aged only 34.

    The man knows comic timing to an art. But very much ' of his time' ...

    As you say, a master of comic timing. His recordings are well worth listening to though, again as said, very much of their time.

    He was a talented cartoonist, and his comedic books on classical music and imaginary instruments are still fun to read.

    His son plays timpani in the Academy of Ancient Music and the London Mozart Players, whilst his daughter is a talented sculptress, specialising in letter carving.
