Exactly a month from now, the cycling road racing UCI world championship will begin.
Tom Dumoulin has not particpated in the TdF nor will he in the Vuelta de España as he focusses on preparations fpr the individual time trials.
Peter Sagan was out of the TdF early and foresakes the Vuelta too in a bid for a third World Championship win.
When you have a look at the courses and factor in the usually adverse weather in Bergen, then the chances of these two become clear. Ok, it is all one day events so way more depending on variables on that day but imo they must be the favorites. Especialle the road racing course for Sagan. It is a short climb he can blast up, the descend and technical bit are also his strengths and if all else fails there is the sprint.
Concerning the time trials, the finish is 3,4 km climb up Mount Fløyen with an average of 9,1%. It is speculated that riders may opt to change their ultra slick aero bike for an ultra light climbing bike.
Several teams have been out scouting out and training the route, no doubt calculating the optimum choice. Several teams had riders out in May already and I bet both Dumoulin and Sagan
Personally, since it is only 3400 meters and only 9%, I think we may see some ultra light ultra slick aeros. Looking forward to both that and the racing.

Going great for the Dutch!!
Gold for the mainly Dutch womaned and ditto manned Liv and Giant teams in the team TT.
Gold (and silver) in the individual TTs.
Admirable performance by Froome btw.; never mind nearly getting caught on the road by Dumoulin, two GT notched up and stíll getting a bronze is awesome.
The women´s road race is for the Dutch to lose, same the men´s for Sagan but the course sure opens it up for surprises!!
After Tom Dumoulin's and Van Vleuten's gold medal earlier this week, now Chantal Blaak has won the gold medal too. Third Dutch victory this week. (Small reason for added joy: Blaak comes from the island town my family originally comes from: Zuidland, a hamlet on an island a few miles southwest of Rotterdam).

Cracking race and almost inevitable that the winner was Dutch. Such a strong team with the numbers to back it up.
Great attack from Blaak but a bit of a shame that no one wanted to help Hannah Barnes bridge the gap.
Really looking forward to the men's tomorrow. Sagan must start favourite, Kwiatkowsk or GVA perhaps an option. Nice long run in so maybe a sprinter that can climb...
