    If you had to choose...

I apologise for another Rolex themed thread, but I am led to believe that I am next to get a SD43 from AD, and also that I am top on list for the new SS Skydweller.
The question; if you had to choose one of the two, which would it be?

    Sd43 without hesitation.
Extremely well proportioned and not as shiny shiny as the skydweller, which imo although pleasant, is faddy.

    I'd buy both
    Lol
I'll take the SD if you don't want it !

The SD in a heartbeat, although not a huge fan of the cyclops on the SD, the Skydweller dial is just too fussy for me.

I don't understand the lack of love for the Skydweller. It has a fantastic set of complications, and, for me, is far more interesting to look at than any other Rolex...

If you're unsure of a watch enough to be asking this question, then it's unlikely to prove to be a central watch for you.

Buying an annual calendar when you're going to be wearing it only occasionally would be...interesting

My problem is the 24 Sub dial looks like it has been dropped there by mistake cutting off half the 5,6 & 7. I have no problem with the complications, but I just hate it when Sub dials chop numbers in half. That completely kills it for me. Just a personal opinion of course.

They could have moved it up a bit and had it completely central and therefore not touching the hour numbers at all and even putting the crown and logo inside the Sub dial ring if necessary. Symmetrical is king.

I would agree with you, except the model has batons, not numbers. It's not like some horrible watches where a number 6 is cut off half way up...

My belief ( not backed up by actual facts yet) is that SS Skydwellers will be far more difficult to source than SD43.
They both are good watches . Depends on what appeals to you.

That looks ten times better than the versions with numbers or Roman numerals, but I still think the SD edges it.

    White gold Cellini Prince?

    Sorry, I couldn't help myself!

My guess is a gold skydweller, white or otherwise. Pretty obvious really as the sd43 is unlikely to be in the window and the gold skydwellers are certainly more of an acquired taste. The stainless ones, when they arrive, are a better looking watch IMHO.

My friend in the US was told by a local AD that the new SS SkyDweller will be very, very scarce "1 SkyDweller for every 3-4 ceramic Daytona's they receive". Either that or they're about to up Daytona production!

Although neither greatly appeal, it would be the SD43 for me.

    SD43 for me.

I've yet to see it in the metal, but after trying on an older seadweller a couple of months ago I now have my heart set on the SD43.

  21. #21
For me, the diver's watch for sure. The Sky-Dweller, ingenious though its movement and integration may be, is too damn shiny. The polished lug tops are especially egregious.

Agreed. I have had two 43s in as many months - both now gone. My first SkyDweller is due the end of next month. I hope it will be good - and think it will be.

Do we have polls on this forum?

It would be the SD43 for me. The Skydweller looks a bit crazy to my eye

    I vote Seadweller.
The Skydweller's subsidiary dial is distracting to me - and not in a good way.
    Still,your wrist,your wallet,your watch.
It's a nice choice to have to make.

The skydweller is a glitzy dogs-dinner of a watch for look-at-me people.

Awful watch worn by not my type of people. How's that for a sweeping generalisation!

If your buying on residual value as some folk do would be the sky dweller all day !!

That sea dweller is sinking fast in value since launch

Like all things, it depends on what you are going to use it for.

If you zoom around the world then the SkyD is the better bet

For everyday all round wear the SD43 is brilliant

For flipping and making a profit I suspect the SkyD will be best for next few months.

Ultimately, If you are buying to wear, if you don't know the answer to your question don't buy.

Skydweller, but I would say that becuase I have a sneaky liking for them. They're different, unlike the rest of the range that's mostly minor variations on the same few themes.

Paying attention I see. I do have a d blue but also have GMT2 so either piece would be some degree of duplication in my small collection.
Suppose the best plan would be to take whichever I am offered first and hope that I have the funds in place for the second when the time comes. If it ever does.

I went to the Rolex Fastnet in Plymouth last week and tried on all the new Basel watches.

SD43 - solid watch that I don't think you could go wrong with. Didn't give me a wow factor but then I've never personally had that much affinity for black dials (though I have a couple). Safe buy I'd say.

Skydweller - of the collection the blue dial is the stand out one for me. Has a bit of a wow factor (some may say a bit flash maybe) and out of the two that's the one I'd go for. However higher risk buy out of the two (marmite maybe).

Out of those, it would be the Sky-Dweller for me. I still don't like the cyclops on the SD43 for example (not having it was one of the nice things I liked about the earlier SD's versus a Sub).

Here's a thought..... if a persons eyesight is so bad that they need a hideous Cyclops to be able to read the date, should there not be a second Cyclops placed over the second time zone sub-dial so they can read that too?

I am definitely the odd man out here. I wouldn't have either of them. The Sky Dweller is IMO a huge lump and although I admire it I wouldn't ever wear it. The SD43 is nice but again a bit big for my taste and I prefer the previous SD. Don't get me wrong, both are excellent timepieces and they rightly have their fans, but some folks will be like me and find them both too big. Try both and make your own informed choice! A proper first-world problem! If you do buy either one then enjoy your new piece.
