    Motorbike Project - 1977 BMW R100RS

Bought this over a year ago and having done work myself and with others, she is finally finished.

Apart from stripping down the original fairing I have added the following over the last 12 months.

Dunlop K70 Tyres originally developed for the TT way back when.
Replaced fuel hose, taps and filters
    Daytona Speedometer
    Hog Parts 3" adjustable mirrors
    Vonzeti custom seat and subframe
    Renthal handlebar and retro grips
    Down and Out battery box
Custom rear plate and brake light
    Megaton exhausts
    Stripped bare metal tank
    Custom fenders
    Monza filler cap (love these)
    1950's Swiss Army Ammo pouch
    Wrapped header pipes

Tried to keep as much of the original parts as possible but some things were begging for improvement.

Will probably move this on after we have entered some shows end of the summer as I'm hankering after a custom bobber, but I've enjoyed the journey and the process, but for the time being I'll enjoy the ride and hopefully some sunshine.

Not bad for a 40yr old!!

Very nice indeed, I do like working on opposable twins, I did a refurb a few years back on a R60/5.

now have a R100GSPD that needs attention.

Lovely, a prime candidate for the 2017 distinguished gentleman's ride - suitably attired of course! Is this the one you completed the 2016 DGR on?

Nice very nice! Are these Stromberg carbs I spot? I love the combination of the brushed tank and the brown leather seat, btw. Perhaps a sleeker tank will add to the 'go fast' attitude of the whole concept(?)

Nice cafe tracker brat scrambler thing.

I've got a Honda CB (not as interesting) sitting in my garage that I plan on doing something similar with. Need to pass my test first though.

Poor R100RS, stripped naked, and paraded as a Shoreditch barista's wet dream.

I'm reminded of this Shobba cartoon

The R100RS was a classic in it's day.
I hope you kept the bodywork before you chopped it?

Bing! The ones we found on Zündapps etc. The cap on those Bings resemble the Stromberg design. Hence my question (I don't know anything about motor cycles)

Distinguished gentlemens ride - afraid not.

Leaving it standard would have been the right way to go.

Another classic bike sacrificed to create a fashion trinket, exhaust wrap is so 2015 and the number plate is illegal.

As others have said, I hope that you kept the original rear subframe and can return the old girl to glory when the scrambler fad is over.

Sold and traded the parts so she won't be restored anytime soon. If it wasn't for this style and ease of customisation, I doubt you would see many of these BMW's still on the road. It's credit to many custom builders that bikes like these get a new lease of life, and get to be ridden. Still each to their own tastes and adherence to the laws as they so prefer.

I'll be on the London DGR, I'm afraid!

They'd be bing slide carbs, not bing diaphrams.

A whole world of difference :D

    Don't worry, i've a garage full of older unrestored BMW's, including a 1978 R80/7 with 14k miles and a 1991 R100GS with 5k miles.

All bought for peanuts years ago before the recent price explosion. :D

Yep, mine are diaphragms. Are they easy to strip down or best leave alone if they are OK?

    Very simple to work on.
Buy Saab diaphrams (if needed), less than half the price as those sold by bmw parts suppliers.
