    Tropic strap from SC

I picked up a new old stock Swiss made Tropic strap from SC. I was taken aback by the cost to be honest, but then I thought an Isofrane isn't exactly cheap so give it a go!

Well it arrived the very next day and I put it on my Shogun. I think it suits the case as it isn't too thick plus the basket weave pattern looks lovely as well.

I did try an Isofrane but it didn't look nice at all.

The Tropic is the most comfortable rubber strap I have worn. The strap is supple, soft and wears really light on wrist. That and the light weight of the Shogun make for a great combination I think.

If you can get hold of one for a reasonable cost I would recommend you give one a try.

Having just bought a new copy of the one you bought on SC, partly inspired by seeing that one, I have to agree. Mine was a very reasonable price but not in the least original and with no branding of course. I don't know if the rubber is a different quality, and mine doesn't smell of vanilla or anything like that, but it is very comfortable.

I dont suppose you could pm me a link of where to buy that strap could you? I would like to compare them side by side and possibly stock up on a couple for my SRP777 and flightmaster.

I much prefer the supple, pliable modern (silicone) tropics to the old stiff, brittle (rubber) ones.

There's nothing stiff or brittle about a NOS tropic

Thanks all, I have ordered a couple at £10 each and will see how they compare. The Tropic I have is really comfy, not stiff or brittle feeling at all.

Well the silicone versions arrived. They feel OK on wrist, soft and comfortable but for some reason not as nice as the original. I think its because they wear "warmer" where the original feels nice and cool. Not bad for the price though.

I don't know because they are Electorn's, but it looks like an Orient.

Thanks Rich. Are the Watchgecko ones like the NOS ones referred to earlier? £28 seems like a good price.

    This is the strap:
    https://www.watchgecko.com/zuludiver...bber-strap.php

They look much the same as the silicone version, (probably made in an identical pattern of mould/press), but it is the material that is quite different.
I'll try and take a pic of my MM300/SMPc on it and stick it up here during the week.

The watchgecko 20mm tropic only fits up to 7.5 inch wrist so 70/121 not enough for me I'm afraid. The 22mm is longer.

I've bought three of these recently and so might as well chip in here with my thoughts.
Having got one of the £10 silicone types, (perfectly fine, albeit quite "floppy" with a slightly tacky texture), I wondered how much better one nearly three times the price would be. Watchgecko do such a version, (£28), and so I thought I'd give one a punt. The answer is they are very different beasts. The more expensive strap is much stiffer, non tacky feeling and has a vanilla scent to it that is quite pleasant. It doesn't attract lint/dust and I liked it that much I bought another for my MM300, (first was for my Turtle). Watchgecko don't say where they source theirs from, but the material feels very similar to a couple of Bonetto Cinturini straps that I have and it crossed my mind that as they stock BC, they may have got them to make a version. I swap the 20mm version between my MM300 and my SMPc and it's definitely a step up in quality from the silicone version, if anyone was wondering.

Likely. In which case they will be a quality product. I may check one out myself.

Did you know that Italian rubber diver's watch straps are a WatchGecko speciality? Because we’ve worked with suppliers like Bonetto Cinturini for so long, you can be confident of finding the price, style, performance and quality that you deserve.
Is it a 2mm taper on the 20mm version?

It is Sean, yes - 18mm buckle.
The 22mm does the same - 20mm buckle.

I couldn't quite get a comfortable fit with the buckle fitted, my ideal fit would have been between holes.
Consequently I've fitted sports deployants to both of them and using the additional adjustment on the clasp, the fit is perfect.

Cool, thanks. I have an 18mm deployant awaiting a new strap.

Just a footnote about the silicone versions from Cousins at £2.50 a pop. I don't doubt they're not a patch on the WatchGecko ones but have found them to be excellent considering the price - the slight tackiness and lint-attraction soon disappears (especially if washed first with hand soap). They are a little short though and only take 1.5mm spring bars. Other than that very light and very comfy.

It's a shame that WG didn't go the whole hog and make a homage to the original with a single keeper to match the strap patterning. Missed opportunity I think.
