Thread: Sinn strap fun

    Sinn strap fun

I've lately discovered an excellent little jeweller in Hamburg called Goldene Zeiten that seems to specialise in some of the German watch brands many of us love. I visit often for work purposes and as it's around the corner from the hotel we use I always make an excuse to pop in. Apart from being really helpful and having lots of great German brands (Sinn, Muhle, Hanhart, Laco etc..), I've found that they keep in stock straps and hardware for most of these brands too. Not only is this quite rare these days, it's really helpful when making a choice to have 10 to choose from. In one case they didn't have the bracelet I wanted but got it in for me in 2 only days.

Anyway last year I bought a U1T from him and have been popping back ever since seeking strap options for the U1, a 556i I picked up earlier this year and now a 903.ST.GL Lemania that I happened across a few weeks ago. What has surprised me enormously though are the prices of the straps and hardware for Sinn on the continent. I forget the prices precisely as I don't have receipts to hand but a chocolate brown leather strap (20mm) and brushed pin buckle was only about 30 Euro, silicon rubber straps for the 556 (20mm) & U1 (22mm) where only 25 Euro, a bracelet for the 556i was only about a 100 Euro or so, the Tegimented deployant buckle for the U1T on rubber was I think 225 Euro and a lovely black leather pilot strap and pin buckle with cream stitch (22/18mm) for my 903 was about 85 Euro.

Now I've seen chancers on eBay trying to get hundreds of quids for new Sinn leather straps and even like 40 quid for a signed pin-buckle! I've also since noticed that the prices of these items through the usual UK seller are much much higher than I paid. I seem to have unwittingly saved quite a lot of money here so my advice is to buy your Sinn ancillaries in Germany!

Anyway I'm sorted for Sinn strap options for the time being! Here are some pics.

    Always fun changing straps around.
Not a big fan of Sinn straps as such except their rubber/silicon which I think was a game changer for the sports watch industry inspite of its shortcomings.
    My recent Sinn strap change:

Breitling strap? The buckle style seems familiar :-)

Hamburg is a lovely city and is jam packed with watch shops and boutiques from Swatch to Patek. Loads to see and do there and well worth a visit.

I would say their prices are fair but not shockingly cheap. In fact prices for accessories for more popular brands have skyrocketed lately. When I bought my 142 I was looking for a Di-model Chronissimo but ended up ordering the original Sinn branded version with Sinn buckle for 70-75 EUR from an authorised dealer in Germany. Happy with it.

It looks fantastic on the 142 too. Their more complex leather straps seem to be around that price which in the context of luxury watch accessories is fair compared to many other brands.

You need to campaign Crafter Blue to make a fitted rubber strap for that MM600. They seem to be making their way through the Seiko dive catalogue. You'd be delighted if they did. I have nothing but high praise for their straps on my Seiko divers.

I really want the proper curved end rubber for my 656, but it's the clasp that's apparently the expensive bit.

don't think the Crafter Blue will do as the lug of the SD 600 is longer than the sumo and the cover of the alien hex will require some trimming on top but not to be cut through.....

Not suggesting you butcher one to fit, rather pester the company to make one for the SD600 next! They seem to be working their way through the popular Seiko divers so you never know :-)

PM me if you are still looking for Sinn Rubber - I have one spare (22mm lug fit), only worn twice and as new, but cut to 7.5" wrist. With Tegimented large clasp just doesn't do it for me on my 757 Diapal as it is a bit shinier than the other 757/756's which would match the clasp colour better.
