    Weird date windows

This just popped up on a social media feed. I can’t link it as I’m on my phone but what a strange location for the date window? Got me thinking about other watches with a date window placed in a strange location on the dial, to which I can’t think of any like this one...

Any watch that does not have it's date window at either 3 or 6 is a big no no for me.

I once read that there it is just lazy design to put it anywhere else although i am sure someone on here will tell me that due to the movement that is the reason more are appearing with the date window at 4 but this one has no excuse.

If done discretely, like many Sinns, think it looks okay at 4.

Personally, don't like 'wonky' dates like that Alpina but they could have at least put it equally between 3 and 4.

I don't mind date windows in other places, but that looks so unbalanced, don't like it at all

Always found this the oddest location for a date window...

Zenith's Surf models of old using the 2572PC had a date similarly positioned and angled, actually a little more extreme. I quite like it for a bit of change!

Date windows work at 4/4.30 etc if they are discreet.

But this one has a bevelled edge around it and the aperture isn't square, it's angled.

Thats why it looks so shit. It's like having a decent looking girlfriend with a third, smaller, dishevelled tit.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

That does look really lazy and crap. I hate that the window is touching the marker. Wtf.

Ruined what could have been a nice compressor.

Isn't the point of having a date window at 4 o clock position make it easier to read when you're typing or driving?

I don't mind them as long as it's mid way between 4 and 5, this allows for a dial with complete hour markers.

That works with something like a Sinn 856 but not if the numbers are rotated to align with the edge of the dial like the Strela reissues which I always think look wrong.

I also find date windows that are open to expose one or more numbers either side of the current day rather odd, most people who can tell the time are capable of counting.

Why does +1, +2 count down and vice-versa? There must be a reason...

Information for information's sake I suppose - just trying to be different for the sake of it rather than actually having any use

I always understood date windows with three exposed dates to be useful on pilots' watches where the minute hand may obscure the date for a few minutes. Now that I think about it I'm not quite sure why that's useful, but it seemed logical to me. I suppose you don't want to depart/arrive or drop your bombs at the exact right time but on the wrong day. As for the +1 etc: not a clue.

That looks terrible to me, would put me off what might be otherwise a good watch. 12 3 or 6 positions for me I'm afraid.

For me what's important is that it's horizontal and doesn't cut into any numerals or indices.

    Prefer them at 3:00.
6:00 also OK & 4:00 also acceptable as per the Sinn posted earlier.

That said, I'm pretty happy with this

Don't mind them at 3 and 6 but that just looks like an afterthought.

That Alpina really does look shocking. How did that escape the concept stage/drawing board/design review/prototype/quality inspection/factory?!?

Iwc started that silly design, I think. They did so because it looked like an altimeter. It was stupid and nonfunctional.

Well, if that was the reason then I don't blame myself for not remembering it.

I just noticed I'm actually wearing a watch with the date between the 4 and 5 position by the way:

Perfect placement for a date display – no need for throwing one’s elbow out to see the date, like you do when it’s at 3, 4:30, or 6.
