Thread: Panamera- anyone got one?

  1. #1

    Panamera- anyone got one?

Need a second car and have done for a while but keep putting it off!

I like the look of the panamera particularly the 4S model.

Any owners on here that can help me make my mind up?

    Cheers,

    Al

I'd be interested in hearing some views also.
So clever my foot fell off.

Well if that's a second car then what's your first - RR Phantom?

Apparently they are very good to drive, but man, hit by the ugly stick. I couldn't have one for that reason alone.

    Cheers,

I actually really like the look of them although I do understand they're an acquired taste!

Me and my Mrs share a car at the moment so when I say second car it isn't actually! We will probably share both cars.

    It's not that ugly!!

No experience of them mate, but in that sector the competition isn't so great, can't say I'm a huge fan of the styling but what I've read suggests that owners are quite happy, will watch the thread with interest.

It looks alright in blue, but I saw one in black and it was ugly!
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I have a few customers that run them. One a hybrid, (green brake calipers apparently). All of them seem pretty happy with them.
Styling is not to everyone's taste but then, as long as you like it, who cares?

They aren't the best looking but they have the best interior of any car I've ever been in. My uncle has recently ordered the hybrid variant for delivery September. Scary money though.

Some pics of the Turbo from the pop up store in Glasgow.

T'would be a dull world indeed if we all liked the same thing, and if the Panamera works for you then it's all good. As I said, apparently, they're a fine driving machine - I wouldn't expect anything less of a Porsche.

My second car is also a bit Marmite, thin and tall as opposed to flat and low - it's not for everyone, but I think it's a great bit of kit.. won't trouble a Panamera in terms of performance though!

Looks great in that colour, best one I've seen in all honesty.

But you only ever seem to see them in 'finance white' which doesn't suit it at all.

Had one for extended loan prior to possible purchase.

Lovely car, very ample power, even in diesel. Comfort and spec is astounding.

Did I buy one? No. Why? Just couldn't put my finger on it. You know what I mean?!?!

There's a blue e63 5.5 turbo estate on At. In Cardiff, looks great. I'd go there.

I know this isn't a recommend me thread but since others have mentioned other cars, how about the Macan. My niece has one and it is a lovely and practical car but it is an SUV so not to everyone's liking.

Only Saloon car I've ever driven with scuttle shake, I'd rather have a F10 BMW M5 for less money.

Ive always liked the Panamera and the new one has some nice upgrades.
A couple of my mates have/had one and both love them.

For me personally, if it was to be my only car Id have been seriously tempted but as a second car I wanted something more sporty.

My nephew, who kicks a ball for a living, likes to try things a little different from everyone else.

Out of all the AMG's/M's he's had, I rate the Panameara 4s he had as best out the bunch.
One of the best runs I've had, from Newcastle, down across Penines, north Wales down to South.
Early hours of Sat morning. Cracking drive, cracking car... you won't be disappointed IMO

Had a couple on loan from Porsche before. They drive very well for their size, plenty of power in all forms, and it handles as well as a 911 at sensible speeds. I found them very comfortable on a long drive. From what I can remember, the view out the back isn't brilliant though and it is a big car - feels much bigger than my Disco when parking it. Would I buy one? No, the looks are marmite although they have improved through the newer styling.

Second hand values as strong as Rolex

At about the £35k to £40k price point a friend of mine had one did twelve months and took a £200 profit when sold

Great "value" if you see what I mean

I dont know the first thing about cars, least not luxury cars (just never taken fancy, thank goodness), so not sure how I ended up in this thread - BUT - surely these cost more than £35k?? They look like a £100k car to me! If they were £35k i'd buy one today, as ugly as they are!

I looked at one but preferred the current model BMW 6 series, interior is much better, provided you can tolerate the rubbish BNW dealers

A second hand car trader I know (wouldn't call him a dealer) rear ended his Panamera - his own fault when backing up. Minor damage, I would say: bumper, LH fender, LH tail light. That were the obvious damages. In the end, the repair and paint job took nearly 15K out of his wallet. Despite the fact that he knows tons of people in the trade: painters, metal workers etc. Porsche parts are unbelievable expensive.

If I had that money to spend on a 4 seater coupe I'd be heading to Tesla. Only drove one for ten minutes but it was a lovely place to be and a good drive.

    I need to clarify this.

Overhere, dealers and traders have a 'fleet insurance'. Not every single car in the traders fleet has its own insurance. The total outlay for that is large insurance pretty low when you compare it with our private insurance for one or two cars. The low insurance costs are balanced against the fact that most dealers/traders cars are stationary in a showroom or forecourt. And they hate paying for damage.

When an 'act of god' causes damage, the insurance company will try to shove the costs into the shoes of the trader! That's what happened here: the trader used the Pan as his own car, clocking up mile after mile with the car for months. And thát's the moment the fleet insurance company draws the line. Which they did...

Browne Jr and I have an invite to a Panamera Sport Turismo launch “event” next Monday at the Porsche centre in Silverstone.

I’m more middle aged than most so it may tempt me as I no longer need a massive estate, but the numbers would really need to add up.

Currently I have a C300 hybrid estate which is a really nice car and soooo cheap to run after my last car (a Disco4 which I still miss!).

Different league of car, but it may be interesting.

Had a zero mile 4S loaner for the last two days, very different to the 981 we have.
The new dash and console looks great but very difficult to use there are no tactile indicators on the console touch panel so you can’t operate the heated seats, ac, sport mode etc without looking down.
Liked the CarPlay system for iPhones, great performance when needed but when I looked up the list @ £90k before toys I’d look elsewhere

Actually they're not. I've had two Pamaeras 4s and two 911s 997 and all were fairly inexpensive to own. Servicing parts are reasonably priced and there are many good specialists who will look after them for you - my local one is excellent. Porsche are much cheaper to maintain than say the non rep Jaguar models and massively cheaper than say, Maserati (eye watering parts prices). Sometimes my wife's Volvo runs up bigger bills than my 4.8 V8.

If you smash the back end of any car to that extent it'll be costly.

That’s good to get any profit from cars these days, can I ask what model he had?

How did you find the Panamera in comparison to a 997?

I have a 997 3.8 and although I love the car I might need to sell it next year for something a bit bigger and comfier on long trips (work related) as its just a weekend car now.
I am thinking the Panamera might be the right move?

Agree with this. Dropped off my 993 at Porsche Maidstone and had a seat in the Boxster, 911, Panamera and Cayenne. Thought the Panamera was the nicest of the lot.
