Macmillan provide extensive support and information to cancer patients and their families. A Macmillan Nurse worked incredibly hard to help our daughter through a very difficult part of her treatment last year. We continue to receive exceptional advice and encouragement. I know that many members here will also have benefited from the dedicated work of this tremendous organisation.
Later this month my wife, Alison, will 'Brave The Shave' to promote and raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. She is quick to stress that it will be a slight discomfort to endure compared to Laura's bravery, strength and determination during her treatment which we were most humbled by. She has set herself a modest target that I think she will smash. If anyone here wishes to donate, the link to her fundraising page is here: https://bravetheshave.macmillan.org....s/alison-smith
There is some information about Laura's journey in this thread: http://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.ph...rsonal-Message
Many Thanks,
Matthew

Big pat on the back for Alison
Errrrm, what exactly, errrm, will she be shaving?
And in.
All best
All done Matthew…. Well done to the good lady :-)
Apologies for not thanking everyone personally but please know that we are really grateful for the donations and support.
Few of us are untouched by cancer in some way. Macmillan are always there to help. Even for those outside the UK, information and advice is readily available.

Give this one a bump .
Whilst confined at Alder Hey, Alison and Laura befriended a little boy called Jaxon and his family. Jaxon was being treated for Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. Jaxon lived life to the full and was an ever shining light, they became very close and shared a lot about their experiences. You can read about Jaxon's wonderful adventures here:

Very sadly, Jaxon died on Saturday morning. It has been very upsetting for both Alison and Laura, particularly as we are so far away and unable to visit the family or attend his memorial.
If you feel able to donate to Macmillan at this time it will also give Alison a real boost. Her fundraising has massively exceeded her initial target already, but please don't let that put anyone off supporting.

Thanks, once again, for all of the generous donations and thoughtful messages so far.
Matthew
Not long to go now...
Laura is looking forward to making the first snip on Saturday and thinks that Mummy will not look as beautiful as she does without hair.
Alison's hairdresser friend has sharpened her clippers ready for the big day tomorrow. A large jug of Pimms will be on hand to calm the victim volunteer.
Alison is over the moon with the current total and I am very proud of her. Don't forget to tune in for the results...
Donation made - well done Alison!
Dear TZ-UK,

A huge, huge "THANK YOU" to you all, for donating to Macmillan. I am overwhelmed by how generous everyone has been, donating to such a worthy cause. I am absolutely delighted that I completely smashed my target, for which I am grateful to each and every one of you!
I am dedicating my shave to Jaxon, whom we got to know through our many hospital visits. He was so brave, but sadly lost his battle against cancer on 12th August, and was 6 years old. He was an amazing little boy with a wonderful loving family. My thoughts are with them at this very sad time.
Thank you all again,
Alison
Glad to have helped a little with you smashing your target!
Your last update raised a smile and a tear from me.

(I should visit G&D more often... better things happen here than in the BP).
Chapeau to Mrs Curta! PM follows to you mate.
Well done Alison... a very brave shave for anyone to undertake
All credit to you
Ben
This will (probably) be my final update of this thread. Since the big ceremony a week ago, a fair few donations have come in and Alison’s total stands at a phenomenal £3177.66, making her presently the 9th highest fundraiser out of the 9,471 registered 'brave shavers' this year. It is an outstanding achievement.
Much of this is down to the support of members of this community. Do please have a look through the names on Alison’s page, every one of them is a hero.

Best wishes to all, Matthew
