Thread: In-coming! In-house! In-credible!

    In-coming! In-house! In-credible!

Got the call and rushed off to the authorised gasoline dealer to pick up my latest.

I'll bet you've already scrolled down in the excitement so no tease here, straight in with the pics of this in-house beauty:

Boom! The Casio F84W no less. (Larger pictures suitable for wallpaper or framing available on request).

Check out that crisp display shaming even a first generation Kindle. But there's more. See how it can do langour too:

Mmmm...while not forgetting its technical roots:

    Yet it is also artistic:

And so functional! See, it has an alarm:

It's designated by the AL. You might be able to see it. It means ALarm. Clever!

When you want to time something, like an egg being boiled or something else that demands accuracy to 1/100 of a second, you are covered:

Can you see the ST? It means STopwatch! You'll never confuse it with the ALarm.

Here is the back. It is made from steel, like a Rolex. But in Thailand, like an exquisitely carved melon.

Have no fear watersports fans. It is Water Resistant!

Life is not all fun and games. Importantly, it also works well in a variety of domestic situations, such as draped over a bottle of scented mist.

But it's never shy of getting in the company of tools!

Just like its owner, it maintains a pleasingly low profile:

Which means it is also capable of formal

This watch has been in continuous production for 27 years. It is designed and built entirely in-house, weighs 23g on its strap, is accurate, functional and legible and has a battery that lasts for years and years.

Including next-day shipping and taxes, new, boxed and guaranteed, it cost me ¥935 (~£6.50)

I'd conclude you could wear this in-house historically-significant marvel from the beach to the boardroom, and probably should.

    Great post!

You make me want to pick one up ha.

When all is said and done, the Casio is a true classic of watch design.

WoW! The taliban's favorite beater... (not joking)

Nice one! Just don't use it to time bombs and attacks like they do.

Yes, yes but will it appreciate in value faster than the Speedy Tuesday I was thinking of buying?

This thread is evidently a flagrant attempt to garner interest and bolster the perceived value of the timepiece. It will surely appear on SC ere the week is out.

Great review but I feel you could have taken some better pictures and we need a wrist shot.

Makes me suspect it'll never get worn, it's a shame when classics like this are kept as safe queens.

Fantastic post, I did attempt to scroll to the bottom to see what it was. I was not disappointed. V informative. Made me laugh.

    Fantastic! Great pictures as well.

A nice curio yet also functional.

There's a few on rakuten I notice, though of the ones I saw all are with resin strap. That fabric one suits it much better.

    Quite a find

    - even the box is cool

Love the thread, love the irony, though in your case TT it is not as ironic as it may seem.

Tough crowd, but as you wish...

Juxtaposition of squareish case with roundish button, steel against resin adding another creative tension. This is a watch that if cut, would bleed pure design.

Crystals are usually thought of as being solid. But not these Casio F84W ones. These are liquid crystals. Here they are presenting abbreviated Latin, like a breathless Stephen Fry.

There is a light on the left hand side. A label indicates this. The light, that is. Many F84W owners already know their left and right.

Note the aligned screw heads, a Genta-esque touch.

    As requested, a wrist shot:

    Hope that helps

Wear it in hot climate on the plastic strap and it sure will start to smell like a Durain soon.

Is the strap long enough for that? Surely you're going to need something a bit bigger to cover the Rolex or G-Shock?

The plastic strap broke on me after about a year, and the watch has sat unused since then :(

    Love it.

Surprised the AD let you take the box and papers with the watch.
