Have PM'd you with local info
I'm buying a watch from a store on the continent, and possibly another from South Africa. Both are from genuine boutiques so I'm not (too) concerned about security, but I've never done this before. The payment is going directly to their own bank accounts.
If I do it via my bank account, I doubt I'll get the best rate, and there's charges. I've looked at CurrencyFair, but before I go ahead, are there any sure-fire best ways you guys would recommend?
Thanks

I've used TorFX before. And just had a message from my bank that they've scrapped all international payment charges.

Strangely my credit card exchange rate is the cheapest for me.
I seem to get almost the same rate as I see on XE but with no fees or charges.
I tend to use https://transferwise.com
Cheers Dan.
My bank wants to charge me (Natwest) unfortunately.
I can't pay by card as I'm abroad and there's all sorts of security issues involved. Otherwise I most definitely would have. You get a great rate and club card points too lol.
Thanks Ben I'll have a look.
Can you not get a card like Revolut, load it with the right funds and pay using the card?

I used transferwise for a watch purchase abroad. They were helpful enough.
Transferwise.
I just got burned on a large transaction £25k on a swift transaction.
Got held up at the intermediary for weeks. I asked for it to be returned as it wasrequiredfor a business deal. By the time it came back the fluctuating exchange rate had devalued it by £1000.
Nothing to be done. Complaints fell on deaf ears.
I'd used transferwise before but had to do a swift transfer for compliance reasons.
Finally I transfered it using transferwise in less than 24hrs for a tiny fee.
I'll never use swift again and will be ditching my bank in the next 12months.
Transferwire tends to get the vote here but any of the transfers company are good, just don't use a bank to do the transfer, so many horror stories with missing or delayed payments!
Transferwise
Used several times now. It was pretty good to start with and the service is getting better all the time

Good luck everybody. Have a good one.
The last few times I have sent money to the Firenze Boutique in Italy I have used HSBC international transfer system with the recipients IBAN number. From memory it was about £35 but I found the exchange rate poorer than most places.
We use transferwise for a number of our suppliers overseas. Works seemlessly.
I've used CurrencyFair a good bit for EUR/GBP and find them spot on.
I've used a few over the years for my business payments and TransferWise is the best.
They always have the best rates and the service is spot on.
Tranferwise is great, but their list of recipient countries is a bit limited. For example initially USD could only be sent to accounts in the US.
Great when it works though!
Transferwise for me too or Revolut for Business if the amount is larger, basic account has an annual limit as I know.
I took out a Halifax Clarity credit card for use abroad, no fees on transactions / cash withdraws, interest charged daily on cash withdrawals. But simplywithdraw cash then pay it off instantly so it only costs pence.
Mastercard bank exchange rates which i think are generally better than Visa too.
So personally i would just phone the shop and pay using the card, working on the assumption you can get a high enough credit limit on it.
Also take a look at WorldFirst if you're still looking. Like some others no fees, and pretty quick. Just checked the live rates for ZAR:
Beneficiary receives:ZAR 1,664.84
Exchange rate: 16.6484 (inverse 0.060066)
You send:GBP 100.00
(CurrencyFair were 1,659.10 - just from checking their main page)

Xendpay might be worth a look. Had a very satisfactory transaction for 15,000 euros with them recently. One of the cheapest I could find.
I use HIFX via XE. Sure it's not the cheapest but it works!
On recommendation from a member on here is use Transferwise but if they accept CC I use my creation card as it's slightly cheaper.
www.mayfairfx.com
A friend owns them but honestly, less hassle than transferwise and amazing rates!
What about Paypal?
