    Tag Aquaracee

Well aftermuch debate I'm going to save my cash and get the above 2017 model with red bezel (similar to the Tudor black bay red bezel) I can get from Swiss watches direct £1080. I have just ordered it. What are people's thoughts? Hopefully a good price 20% off list.

Personally, I'd wait for a sale. You should be able to negotiate 20% off from your local Tag AD and build up a bit of rapport with them, which might help with future purchases.

I think Tag are ok. They used to be better. Some models are still very good, but others really are built to a price point. Can't go too far wrong with an Aquaracer - I bought a quartz one for a weekend watch, but found I was wearing my Omega Seamaster SMP 2221 quartz in its place. Plus the second hand never hit the markers on the Tag, which uses a cheaper quartz movement. That said a lot of the Omega Quartz don't fair any better at hitting the markers either!

All the usual suspects Beaverbrooks, Ernest & Jones, Goldsmiths, Jura watches and many others - they will have a couple of sales a year - or maybe try Bicester Village if you are near, they used to do up to 50% off some Tag models.

Depending on the AD, how they feel and what they want to sell you might get lucky discount wise, but I wouldn't consider buying a Tag unless I was getting 25% or more off - unless it's a long term keeper, you will lose around 50% if you tried to sell, maybe more on some models.

The issue with TAGs, as described to me by a manager of a TAG boutique, are the Sellita movements. Apparently they are very unreliable, and this leads to another issue. One of the worst service scenarios I've come across personally has been with this brand after dropping a watch off at LVMH who are based in Manchester. This was 3 or so years ago so perhaps things have improved though.

As Scott says OP, you could have haggled a TAG to the same price as grey via your local dealer. TAG aren't like Rolex where they pursue ADs for discounting as far as I'm aware, but at least you've done the right thing by being savvy with finding a decent price anyway.

Enjoy and post some pics :-)

The manager of a Tag boutique told you their watch's movements were very unreliable? Wow. Some sales and marketing course he's been on

I looked at a tag in my local AD and was offered 20 percent discount without asking.

Ive had one explaining to me how bad their returns had been on IWC and Panerai over the previous year - but then I was far from surprised ;). Maybe they made more profit on one of the other group's brands he was trying to get me to buy.
