Looks like a troubled soul, always a selfish act but equally a great shame

Real shame. Was best friends with Chris Cornell and sang at his funeral...guess who B'day it would have been yesterday too !

A really good point, something I have found extremely important in recent years. Many men struggle once the 'angry young man' vanishes. Many turn to drugs, women or the bottle. It can effect any of us...just looks what's happened to Tiger Woods recently.
Mental health is far more important than any other health related process, but always seems last in the pecking order.
As men, do we really look out for each other? Do men open up and discuss how they really feel? There has to be self ownership of our mental state, most men just hope it will go away....in my experience is doesn't.
I posted on Havening in G&G recently nobody commented? Living with PTSD as I do I work hard to keep buoyant, but its a daily fight. Look around you guys, put your arm around a colleague, friend, brother, father who you know is struggling. Be vigilant. Don't just say lets go for a drink!
    RIP Chester

Indeed, was he getting (professional)help with his troubles?

He had many troubles - by all accounts his early life was pretty rough and he'd hit the bottle / got in to drugs but managed to sober up both times.

Very much the case. And finally getting some wider recognition since Heads Together etc this year.

Don't usually comment on this sort of thing but always related to his lyrics, these from latest album seem apt.

Not a Linkin Park fan but always a tragedy when somebody feels they have to take their own life.

Seems to be a lot more mental health issues among young men in the public eye nowadays than ever, or is it just my imagination?

I don't recall high profile band members committing suicide in the past.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

This was written about people he'd lost over the years, he sang it re CC recently on some American TV programme and couldn't complete the last verse due to getting upset.

This is the first time I've been really knocked for six by a musicians death. Not George Michael, not Michael Jackson, not Bowie. They were all shocks, but they were just famous people who had died...

No particular reason for this one to sting - I was a fan of the band but then I'm a fan of a lot of bands. Something about this just resonated with me and I've been in a daze all day, since getting up I've done absolutely nothing and couldn't even bring myself to comment on this thread.

Their album Minutes to Midnight gets a bit overlooked (Bleed it Out is probably the best known track on it), but track 3, Leave out all the Rest, is well worth a listen today. Please give it three and a half minutes of your time.

Only really know the band because I'm a fan of the Transformers franchise, but their songs always seemed so perfectly placed in the movies; like no other band could have sang and made it gel so well.

With issues like this close to home, I really hope he's now at peace; it's such a shame to see so many things like this happening, like an epidemic in some way.

    RIP.

I didn't really 'get' minutes to midnight when it was first released. I then accidentally listed to it the day after my Nan passed away (iPod was on random) and it suddenly it made sense to me. Very very sad that he felt the need to do this, and very hard for any of us to rationalize.

Couldn't agree more. It's a battle that's difficult to understand unless you or a loved one have been through it.

He does say in that interview he shouldn't be in his own head alone, which leads me to ask the same question again, was he not getting professional help.

If there's one thing suicide isn't it's selfish. Suicide is the devil on earth.
