Real world pic of the commander watch from Omega...

My favourite AD just sent me this pic of the new commander. It'll still get a lot of hate but it's also refreshing to see a white dial Seamaster...

Photos from the AD... Must have thought you'd be their customer most likely to be daft enough to buy it

Hate is too strong a word but to be honest, it looks like a Seiko or Orient divers watch. The white dial makes a change but the rest of it just screams Orient parts bin on sale at Creation.

It would be half decent minus the god awful second hand carbuncle and with a less blingy strap on it. The crassness of including a fake medal ribbon with the packaging is beyond belief.

Maybe if the dealers start giving them away, I may get one and get STS to swap the hand for something less awful and put it on a Bond bracelet. Then again, why bother?

Lose the 007 second hand and put it on blue rubber or sailcloth and I can see the appeal.

The quality of the photo doesn't help but that looks cheap and tacky.

No silly second hand, or ceramic bezel, and I'd happily wear it.

That's the 006, but it'll probably look better!

It does actually look better in real life, though that's not saying a great deal. The second hand is just so childish and embarrassing. They should keep the Bond stuff for the case back where no one can see it. Or if they insist, they could write Commander where it says Professional on the dial, or instead of the water resistance, or something similar that won't notice. Probably it's easier to use some old second hands though. It's a pity as the Spectre edition suggested they'd figured out how to do these without making everyone cringe.

I think with an all-blue bezel and non-cheesy second hand it would be a lovely watch.

    Still not a fan.

I'm also in the loose ;-) the detail on the second hand, but otherwise I'd happily wear it as a dive watch.

(But I'd get a NATO that fitted correctly between the lugs).

Definitely. It's not too bad on a different strap, but that second hand is ridiculous!

Its an achievement - make an all time classic watch look cheap & tacky!!!! Nato strap is an especially bad idea as well.

The Omega `MMMMMmmmmmattersons` bezel looks crap on any Seamaster, on that one it just adds to the naffness.

    No.

I am surprised at the near universal criticism.
To be fair, I don't think it looks great but I am not repulsed or outraged.
I honestly don't mind the NATO or the name.
The design element that doesn't work for me is the bezel.
In general, it is hard to make a dive watch with a bezel and a white face.
Earlier white Seamasters had a SS bezel and I didn't like those either except the great white and the Regatta.
A black bezel can work with a white face if the bezel is not wide.
Here there is not enough contrast between the dial and the blue part of the bezel.
But, as I said before I don't consider it an abomination and have seen a lot worse.
The watch in the pic still has stickers on, so it is hard to say anything.
I will reserve my final opinion till I see it in person without stickers.

The white dial is pleasing enough but totally spoilt by the silly red hand and bezel! What size is it?

Watch it crash and burn, buy one at heavy discount then see it rise in value in 25 years time when people buy it as a crazy vintage piece.

Whatever floats your proverbial, I say! I've seen it in the flesh. It's defo not to my taste but there's some folks waxing lyrical on other forums. The only watch I wear and love that carries an '007' and has earned legend status in wis circles is......my Seiko SKX. Sorry, Bond tribute pieces just aren't my thing. Omega do them because they sell though, so live and let live/die!

True, and Rolex generally only use this colour scheme on the GMT with a black dial. The colours of the bezel are very close indeed to the Rolex in real life, though don't photograph well because of the sheen on the bezel.

There has been a white dial Rolex GMT Master though, made in small numbers for Pan Am - see here, imagine lifted from this thread on WUS:

Perhaps Omega had this semi-mythical watch in mind when creating a special edition? Somehow it doesn't gel though in the Omega case, though it's more convincing in the metal. That second hand could make any design look like a toy though, and it's not surprising to see it become a running joke on forums as a consequence. Omega might want to think about that.

Actually I'm with Raj, Padders and Scepticalist on this one. I wouldn't consider buying one because of the '007' on the second hand and the horrid bit of nylon it comes on, but if those two were fixed I think it's OK. Not sure why so much vitriol has been aimed at the bezel, to be honest - it obviously doesn't photograph well with the sticker on it but there are tons of watches out there with Pepsi-colour bezels and they are frequently liked...

    With the following changes, this would actually be a nice watch which I'd consider;

    1) get rid of the "007" seconds hand
    2) solid minute/hour hands
    3) bracelet
    4) all blue bezel
    5) black numerals on date wheel

I think this would be the basis for a really nice diver in the Seamaster lineup.

Can any photoshop wizards mock this up?
