    Comfortable Shoes

I intend to buy some brogue Trickers tomorrow and will have to chose between the leather and rubber sole.

I know that the leather soles looks more elegant but is not so good in wet weather.

Simple question - is one type of sole more comfortable than the other ?

Commando sole - but I'm not sure Trickers do that as standard.

    Happy to help, chaps.

Anymore of this and I shall start using the C word again.

Trickers do offer the Cammando sole, hence my question - I know they are a bit ugly but as I get older, I like my comfort more.

It is serious. I have been doing a lot of googling and the answers are contradictory.

It wasn't clear if you meant rubber dainite sole, or rubber commando - I agree the latter look ugly on shoes. But they suit boots - just buy some Trickers brougue boots!

Or try them all on and see which you prefer chap.

I would go for rubber Mick, I know leather is more traditional but rubber is much more practical.

    Is that to prevent chapping?

I'd always opt for the leather sole option. More comfortable, more breathable and more elegant. i have a pair of dainite sole boots and a pair of kainite sole double monks for when the weather is at it's worst, but in normal weather conditions I rarely wear anything other than leather soles as the comfort is better.

    Sketchers are proto watercolourists.

Skechers are a comfort shoe brand.

Thank you for your sensible and informative reply, unlike the others who were about as much use as a thin walled chocolate teapot. In fact some of them were about as much use as a cracked thin walled chocolate teapot and you cant get more useless than that.

I shall buy the leather soled version.

Dainite sole - ultimate flexibility whatever the weather

  26. #26
Depends on what shoe it is and what you want them for.
If it's a smart slim shoe and you want a smart look, go leather, but then you can't wear them in the snow and rain and will probably slip over alot in the wet.
Dainite would be the happy medium.
I have the commando sole on my Ilkley's and it's great on a chunky shoe like that, being a big-ish lad i can carry it off ok, but would probably be too chunky on someone with a slim frame and/or small feet.

Or cheap chapping chaps. Cheap chaps chap. Chaps wearing cheap chapping chaps risk getting chafed because cheap chaps' cheap crappy chapping chaps chafe. Cheap chaps risk getting chafed by buying cheap chaps. Chipper chaps chafe not because they know that pukka chaps chafe not. Therefore a chipper chappy's chaps chafe not because their chaps are chipper. In the construction industry, chap wearing chippies know that chipper chaps make a chippy chipper, whereas chafing chaps make a cheap chippy chap less happy. For example, a chippy wearing chafing chaps on his way to the chippy in his lunch break won't get chafed and thus remains chipper. A cheaper chippy chappy with chafing chaps and possibly a chippy on his shoulder on his way to a cheaper chaps' chippy might get chafed because his cheaper chaps are not chipper and thus chapping and may chafe the cheaper chappy, the cheapy chippy, on his way to the cheap chippy in his crappy cheapy chafing chaps. You make it sound as if you were seriously asking us to decide whether rubber leather soles would be better for your use.

    I wouldn't worry too much.

Reading your posts, anyone with such an attitude is probably safer staying in their bungalow, watching daytime TV.

Have you thought about Ugg slippers?

As somebody with a slim frame and small feet I can say that commando soles look fine on a pair of trickers (I have 3, 2 bourton shoe and 1 boot) it would look odd if I had size 10's but I'm an 8 (7.5 in trickers 444 last)
I would go for a dainite sole for versatility and comfort, or you could go leather and add a thin Topy sole. I do,this for grip and to stop the excessive wear I get on a leather sole toe.

I ordered the Tricker Kensingtons yesterday and they arrived this morning which was a surprise. They have a leather sole and are plain bloody comfortable. I normally wear Loake 1880s but these seem much better. I have never worn Trickers before so I am hoping for minimal break in.

I am sorry if some of you thought that the leather v the commando sole was stupid but I am 68 and spend a lot of time walking the streets and comfort is paramount to me.

Just for your info, Trickers are have a sale and the availability is good. My shoes were reduced from £375 down to £195.

    Many thanks for the advice.

If you want comfort forget any of the 'establishment' shoe makers. Seems looks are inversely proportional to comfort. Try Anatomc Gel for comfort.

I have a cupboard full of shoe trees, so no problems there. At the moment I have sore feet, these Trickers are going to need breaking in.

Plus if you buy a good pair, eminently re-soleable
I've had a pair that have lasted over 20 years being re-soled & healed every few years, it's the uppers that finally give in

How are your Tricker's wearing in OP old Chap? I had to send mine back due to wonky broguing on one shoe...it was the worst broguing crisis since penisgate. Fair play to Tricker's though, I received a new pair two days after posting the first pair back, with some complementary polish and a Tricker's branded application brush (presumably to compensate me for postage).

So now applying Saphir Renovateur, to be followed by several coats of polish. That's how I party.

    Hi

Glad you got your dodgy broguing sorted out.

I am wearing them for about 2 -3 hours at a time, but they still need breaking in.

This is what I call dodgy broguing...

Bought by a gentleman on here though...they were actually really nice shoes in the flesh!
