Apparently some cash machines in busy areas can have six-figure sums in them at the right time e.g. late Friday afternoon, and probably bugger-all on early Monday morning. You can see why they're a target.

Years ago NCR machines could have £50k in each cassette and could hold 4 of them (if loaded with £20s iirc)
