    The Vostok 1967 is back!

For those not in the know, the limited edition Vostok Amphibia 1967 produced a few years ago was without doubt the finest watch ever made by the company. It had a proper chunky steel case, higher quality 2415 movement, domed sapphire crystal, lume that really worked and a bracelet that wasn't made out of tin foil. From the original price of around £150, these are now selling for £500+

Vostok are once again releasing this quality watch, only this time in bronze. Pre-order with Meranom starts at 1400 today and I doubt very much that they'll hang around for long. Price is not exactly cheap for a Vostok but pretty competitive otherwise - $385. https://meranom.com/en/amfibia/amphi...67-196500.html

Wow! I had one of the steel versions and while it was indeed one of the best Amphibias I've ever owned I just didn't get on with the 090 case. Too big for my weedy wrist.

This will fly out of the door and might actually be a decent investment buy.

Goddammit, I haven't got that cash right now. I'd love one of these.

Did anyone here get one? No luck myself, whenever I added it to the cart it was empty then showed out of stock after minutes of them going live.

Sold out in less than 6 minutes as far as I can see. It took me a moment to realise that you had to choose the serial number you wanted from those still available from a drop-down box for it to accept the order. Despite a diabolical internet connection here, I've received an order confirmation for #128, (27, a prime to the power of a prime and 10000000 in binary).

Looks like it's live again now, get in quick whilst you can!

Chemistry was never my strong point
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

I suspect that a few were put into 'shopping carts', not completed as orders and released again. Now available on pre-order, I've done it a few times with Meranom and the stuff always comes through in the end.

There was a bronze/brass debacle? Anyway, I'm going to wait for the stainless steel version which is supposedly coming out later this year.

No beach here but a Staropramen in the park is on the cards now on a scorchio evening.

Never tried a bronze (or brass) watch before, seems like a good opportunity as I like a Boctoc or three. Bronze is supposed to be harder wearing and more corrosion resistant than brass isn't it?

I don't know. I think one is meant to be ok worn next to the skin and one isn't.
Good luck everybody. Have a good one.

In 2011 three micro brands released bronze-cased watches that turned out to actually be brass, due to a mistake made by their suppliers. One of them was the Magrette Regattare, and the full story is still available in an archive on their website. All three offered free re-cases, although I believe quite a few owners kept the ones they had bought albeit (I presume) with partial refunds, since brass is substantially less expensive than bronze.

Ironically it was reading about this saga that led to me wanting to buy a brass (rather than bronze) watch, and I subsequently bought a limited edition brass Maranez Layan that is still in my collection today.

Sorry to slightly hijack the thread, but you did ask .

You're welcome. For buyers peace of mind, it seems highly unlikely that such an issue would ever arise again...

    Damn totally missed out on these. Hadn't been visiting WUS Russian forum or many forums at all for ages. I̶f̶ ̶a̶n̶y̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ ̶h̶a̶s̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶w̶a̶n̶t̶s̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶f̶l̶i̶p̶ ̶i̶t̶ ̶l̶e̶t̶ ̶m̶e̶ ̶k̶n̶o̶w̶.̶

Withdrawing my interest on this. Read about some QC issues already so not for me.

I caught one, need a better dial shot as it's got a lovely texture.

Or maybe not, the use of quotation marks and English urny ma strong point.

Hey Trent! Welcome to TZUK. Your pic isn't showing btw.

    I've been using this...

Works a treat once you figure out what code to use and stuff.

Whatever the punctuation, the point is that it seems like the supplier(s) knew that they were supplying brass at bronze prices but thought they would get away with it.

There's one of these on eBay now, with a low $0.99 starting bid.

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vostok-Amp...%257Ciid%253A1

Postage is a very reasonable $900...

In the old days this was a cunning ruse to get round paying fees. This seller clearly doesn't realise that eBay closed that loophole some time ago and now charges 10% on postage.
